I am scared to death...

I am scheduled tomorrow to take MeiLing and Yoshi into get their baby teeth extracted...but i am so worried that I am thinking about just canceling the appointment...I read all these threads about their baby not waking up or just passing over when they go under and that has me worried sick...

How old should the be before I get that done...

Yoshi is going on 17 months old.
MeiLing just barely turned 7 months....

I have all kinds of crazy thoughts running through my head right now...I was told not to let them eat anything about 6:30 pm tonight but they can have as much water as they want...

I know this isn't going to be easy but what can I do to prepare for this...what if the worse happen..how am I going to handle it...

Sophie didn't need her baby teeth removed so I haven't gone through this. She did get spayed and I worried about her. Just stay in touch with the vet's office and get updates when you need some reassurance. Good luck to you and your babes!

My 2 lb Sophie is supposed to be spayed at 6 months (she is 5 months now), and I am scared to death. I was thinking of waiting, but I read there are health problems with that too. Are you very familiar with your vet? Is your dog very small? If I can find a vet that has experience with smaller dogs, I would feel better about the anesthesia. Yoshi weight 3.65 lbs the last time i check...i am going to recheck tonight after work when i get them a bath...don't want them going to surgery stinking...hehe

MeiLing was 3.65 also the last time I check...but will also be checking again tonight...i been going to my vet for years...but never had to do surgery or anything of that sort...

Aw, bless your heart! Try not to be too worried. When something happens during surgery, many times there is an underlying problem. So if you know and trust your vet and he has done the necessary pre-op blood tests, all should be well. The vet did surgery on my little 1.9 lb ferret and she came through in flying colors, so your little ones should be fine. My Chi, who weighed 3.9 lb, came through her spay in good shape, too. I think surgery is harder on the owners than the little furkids.

also what does the pre-op bloodwork do or prove?

i just called they said they were not planning to do the pre-op bloodwork since they are young...they normally just do it to older dogs like 8-10 years old...but i told them that i would like for it to be done just to ease my mind...so after work today i have to run home and get them and take them in for bloodwork so they can have the results first thing tomorrow.

Conner is having his LP surgery today, so I know how you feel. They told me not to give him anything to eat after 6 p.m., and I wanted to feed him, just so he wouldn't have the surgery. But I didn't because my husband would have killed me. We know he needs the surgery and will be better for it.

Conner was supposed to have this surgery performed in January, but his pre-op blood work showed a liver problem, and the vet would not do the surgery because of this. It was probably a fluke thing (or maybe caused by the frontline he had a few days before surgery). He is having pre-op bloodwork again this time because the vet wants to make sure everything is a go before going into surgery. I would highly recommend the pre-op bloodwork. I don't know what would have happened to Conner had he not had it in January.

Please keep us updated. Hopefully, it will be over before you know it.

it is scary having your baby have surgery. i agree w/ another poster, that it's harder on us! our vet uses the gas anesthesia (p-something) much safer. also have pre-op blood work. it'll show if anything doesn't look right & your vet will wait on the surgery & address any health issues that were discovered. your little ones could possibly have health/dental problems if the baby teeth aren't removed. i understand your nervousness- cali was recently spayed, microchipped & baby teeth pulled (14!! ). she's 6 mths & 3.1 lbs & was chasing after her big sister w/ in a couple of days after surgery.
talk to your vet about your concerns. a good doctor (& staff) has open communication & is there to help you though these things. good luck!

i sure hope so! i am leaving work here at 3:30 to go home and give them stinkers a bath...then take them in at 5 for the pre-op bloodwork. thanks!
