Tylan, fiber, natural joint supplement I am tossing this out to the community even though I am talking to a wonderful lady who has been giving me info based on her own experience. I am also working with an internist for my Shih-tzu pup who has what my internist calls "an overgrowth of normal bacteria"--hence the Tylan and fiber. Poor Henry has suffered from intense diarrhea and the Tylan and Fiber seem to be helping him a lot. Anyway, am looking for info on Tylan, what a diagnosis of an "overgrowth of normal bacteria" really means (a different and strange diagnosis for sure but one whose side effects is diarrhea) and a natural (not cosequin-type medication) joint supplement for my Yorkie (not the young shih-tzu).
My Shih-tzu has been on the Tylan and metamucil for one month and the improvement was almost spontaneous. When I tried to simply wean him down on the dosage of Tylan this week (on doc's suggestion and approval) he IMMEDIATELY had diarrhea again after missing just one day of the Tylan. Anyone know what this means?? I am so frustrated. Anyway, I wonder if changing the brand of fiber could affect his also..from metamucil to benefiber is what I am referring to. Anyway, because I absolutely cried when I saw the horrendous diarrhea return after one day of weaning the Tylan and using this new fiber, I went right back to the orig. dosage of Tylan and Metamucil and guess what?? Today he is 100% again. What is going on?
If anyone has had any experience with this type of thing or using Tylan please share with me. Right now, my little rescue guy, is again on the right track but shoot, will I have to keep him on Tylan for the rest of his life? And, "an overgrowth of normal bacteria"? Very different diagnosis for sure. CAnnot even use a probiotic with him at this time cause that would INCREASE what he already has too much of....arrrrrrrrghhhhhhh, too confusing.
Thanks for any experiences you can share or any knowledge you may have. I appreciate it. Yorkie Sue |
