| Update on "The Toto's" physical!!! Last Friday we took Toto to Alameda East in Denver for an "inside/out" going over! I have never been so impressed with a facility in my entire life [human OR animal]!!! Everyone was soooo caring and nice. She was seen by Dr. Kelly Kattman who addressed every single one of our concerns! We had a long list and she has pronounced our little girl "perfect" with the exception of her anal glands which are a little large and, of course, her weight! We have to keep an eye on her stools [which lately have been looking like rabbit poop instead of stools!] ... since she is drinking plenty of water her colin should be hydrated enough for her to have normal stools ... the change in her diet should correct this. She is on a diet of "strictly" dog food [and she will eat when she is hungry]! She is not happy, mind you, but after about two days of "fasting" and giving us dirty looks she ripped into her Royal Canin and was gulping it down ... crumbs flying everywhere! Her blood profile showed that her tyroid, liver, etc. was fine and the X-rays of her upper body and neck showed that there are absolutely no problems with her trachea! Her "honking" is indeed "reverse sneezing"! She addressed the "snow nose" and explained that what Toto has [her dog also has] is a lightening of the pigment on her nose ... it may turn dark in the summer or it may just remain her little "beauty mark" down the center of her little button nose! She assured us that it was OK but if we noticed light spots anywhere else on her nose or on her lips, eyelids or other places that are black we should call her. So, all in all, she got a good report ... we have to report back on the diet and "stool progress" in two weeks!! We were elated ... we have been so worried about every little thing for several months now, it's a relief to have a second opinion! And, yes, we met Dr. Fitzgerald and he's just as sweet and "laid back" funny as he is on Emergency Vet!!! We had a laugh about the turtle enema!!!

| Congratulations on your visit Bettyanne. Glad to hear Toto is, as we all suspected, perfect -- it has been confirmed!! j/k! I'm sure Toto will miss her pasta, but she will be happier in the long run when she loses her weight. Would the restrictions to only dog food have caused a change in her stool? I have always been impressed with Luca Dean's stool -- it has not been loose one single time and sometimes it seems he is slightly constipated even, but he gets tons of oil supplement and yogurt, etc... maybe it's just a yorkie thing, but I love it. Congrats to Toto on the clean bill of health! |

| Her stool "problem" actually started when she was on her "self-imposed" veggetarian diet, which really surprises me! I would think that just veggies would have been better for her but it seemed to be just the opposite. Her little stools have actually gotten more normal looking just the few days she has been off the veggies ... go figure!! Dr. Kattman said she needs the nutrients from the dog food and wouldn't be getting everything she needs from the veggies. I guess we will see in the next couple of weeks ... Toto is confused and I feel so badly because I feel that this unhappiness of hers is my fault. Patrick says I should quit "beating myself up"! I just can't to see that sad look in her eyes! Yes, Alameda East is the one on Animal Planet. They recently finished the new facility and they have their "General" and "Emergency" departments on opposite sides. The whole thing is so impressive and it's so obvious that there are lots of dedicated, caring people there! From the minute we signed her in, Toto was their focus and we were just her "humans"! I hope we never have to go to the "Emergency" side, but after seeing it, Patrick assures me that if Toto ever has anything that requires it .... that's where she will be! It just gave us such peace of mind, it was certainly worth the trip!

| I'm so jealous! You got to meet Dr. Fitzgerald! I LOVE that guy! Did you know that he is a professional standup comic in his off hours? They showed him doing his thing at a comedy club one time. And I also think he is one sexy lookin' dude! Soooooo happy to hear that all is well with Toto and that she is ripping into the Royal Canin. Now just run her little tail off playing and she'll drop that weight in no time. And I understand she is going to have LOTS of room to run around in her new Bigfoot! Well, Don and Patrick are off and running with all the new things to do in the new trailers! I think that's why Don bought the new one.....he had done all possible mods to the Casita. Did I hear that Patrick is putting in a Jacuzzi in the Bigfoot bedroom? Hopefully we'll see ya soon.... |

| Yep! Dr. Fitz was just as "laid back" and funny as he appears ... and he sounds like "Yogi Bear"!! The only "episode" that came to mind was the one where he had to give the turtle an enema! I commented that it was very interesting ... his comment ... [Yogi voice] .. "turtle didn't enjoy it". He was very nice! I was terribly pleased with the care and of course the good reports on Toto! One thing that amazed me was how calm I remained when Dr. Kattman left the exam room with Toto in her arms and Toto as "happy as a clam"!! You know me ... Toto never leaves my sight!! Dam, they're good! So far, Toto is accepting her lot in life and eating her dog food ... not happy, it's obvious, but resigned! And that's OK! Now if the weather cooperates and we can get to the park pretty often, she will be sleek and trim again! I think she is going to enjoy the space in the Bigfoot! Especially if Patrick can build her agility course I have in mind from one end to the other!!! If these guys just need something to do with their spare time ... Legos would be lots cheaper than doing mods!!! I had planned to use the storage space under the bed for storage ... a Jacuzzi would be nice .... NOT!!!! I just hope we will be able to find time off to actually enjoy it!!!

| Did you have Toto on RC at all before going to the emergency room or was that what they recommended? Just curious.

| bettyeanne I'm so glad to hear that Toto's appointment went so well! Having a vet that actually listens to your concerns and doesn't dismiss them is so wonderful! My vet is great, Sandy goes in on average once every two months and he is always happy to see her. She goes in again tomorrow to check up on her leg Anyway, I'm just so glad to hear it was such a pleasant experience for all of you! Yay Toto! And you were able to see a "celebrity" - can't beat that!
