| Heartworm My sister rescued a two-year old dog from Louisiana last September. Her dog had some pain in the legs today, so she took her to the vet and he ran a Lyme test. Roxy did not have Lyme, she has heartworm (not related to the leg injury) . The vet said that she must have picked up the heartworm in Louisiana because he has not ever seen a case in our area. He said it must have been in the beginning stages when she had her heartworm test in September and that's why it didn't show up. She is scheduled for two shots which have to be 24 hours apart. The vet said these shots are very painful and are given in the leg. Poor Roxy.
