| Maybe it's just me Now that I'm starting to type this, it sounds silly! I've had Harley since Thursday and he's changed in these few days. I have an appt. with the vet on Thursday for his check up. I noticed today his belly looks and feels bigger than his chest. Now, I'm used to big lean pups, like labs, not these little ones. Is this normal? Am I just paranoid? It seems to have just happened today! Nothing seems abnormal to me since bringing him home. I asked the breeder what his feeding schedule was and she said they were fed (open house?) where the food is left out all the time. When he eats he is not cleaning his bowl. I put out 1/4 cup a day and he still has a little from the day before left. Also,I know this is being discussed elsewhere, but... He is on Eukanuba and I wondered if I should leave him on it until problems arise or should I go ahead and change it. I have researched the premium foods out there and found a few I like. I'm going to ask the vet these questions, but I thought I'd feel you guys out first and see if I'm being silly. Thanks! |

| Has he ever been dewormed? If he has not then this couldbe a contributing factor . Is he peeing and pooping regularly? AND is their any blood in his stool? You may want to take a stool sample with you when you take him to the vet. If he is playing and alert, then he is probably ok, but does need to be checked out for common ailments that pups can get. |

| I'll have to check his papers to see about the deworming. Has no blood as far as I can see and peeing and pooping the same. I'm bringing the papers with me Thursday. It's a print out from the vet the breeder took him to. Don't quite understand it with all of the abbreviations. |

| I would have a stool sample tested if I were you. Franklin and Maggie both had potbellies when they had worms..

| I'd wait for your vet before trying to deworm him. How old is he? He should have been wormed at least once before being given to you. Do you see the word "Donatal" on the vet information? That is a worming medicine used on puppies.

| He is 9 wks. On the health certificate paper work that was printed Wed. it shows his birthday as 4/12/08 but further down there is a line that says... 4/11/08--2/dhl,2/parvo, 2/corona, reworm (with a handmade check next to it) must be typo On his puppy record printout, it shows they use Panacur and/or Strongid birthdate:4/12 dewormed dates:4/26,5/5,5/19 |

| Sounds like he has been well-wormed. So that probably isn't the problem. Has he been going potty, no straining or unproductive pooping activity?

| If the last time he was wormed was a month ago, it's possible that he could have worms again.. I think. I'm not really sure. Even if he does have worms, it's nothing to fret about. The vet will give you a dewormer and it will all be over. You have to take basic hygiene precautions but of course those should all be routine and normal anyway. Don't panic. When Franklin had worms, he had tapeworms, hookworms, and roundworms! I wouldn't even touch him lol. When we got Maggie and found out she had hookworms.. nothing changed. I've grown accustomed to it.

| OK this morning he seemed to have a little trouble pooping. Seemed to take a little longer. I was not aware that they need to eat wet food in addition to his dry. I've just been wetting his kibble so that half is about moist. His water dish is always full. What else do I need to do? Other than that he is doing just fine. Playing, jumping, nipping, wresling. |

| My puppies don't get any wet food. Just kibble and a bowl of water. We "free feed" too, and they just eat when they are hungry. We feed Royal Canin Puppy food, and it is small enough for them to eat without choking. You shouldn't have to wet the kibble if it is small enough. He may be a little constipated. Try offering water in a syringe to get a little more in him. You can also put a little Karo syrup in his water dish to make the water tastier and encourage him to drink more. If he is really straining, you can either give him a little canned pumpkin (plain pumpkin not the pie mixture) or you can put a little water in a syringe and insert it into his bottom to help loosen things up. I'd go with the canned pumpkin first if it was me.
