| A little help please!?! Thanks. Hi there. My girl doesn't seem to want to eat her food till mid-late afternoon. I try everything to get her to eat during the day but she won't (unless she finds something on the kitchen floor or a kibble of my other dog laying around *sighs*) So, I bought some Wellness canned puppy food and a Merrrick one. Would it be ok to give her some of that in the morning or is that a mistake? If so, how much of that wet stuff can one give? I am also on a quest to change her food. It has menondine in it *sighs*. Can anyone give me their feedback on Wellness? It is between that one and Petcurean "Now" or "Go". They have a website. Thanks so much. She has a vet appointment for her booster tomorrow. She will be 3 months old. She hasn't gained more than a pound in the past month...is that something I should be concerned about or is that normal? She came to me at 1.94 pounds at 8 weeks old....and I think she is 2.3 pounds or something close now a month later. Thoughts? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hey Marc! Weren't you going w/ Orijen or did you decide against it? Wet food is always better than dry - so I don't see anything wrong w/ giving that in the morning, or anytime for that matter. Wellness is fine - but they have had some problems. I just looked at Petcurean - and they actually look great. And, w/ your baby's itchies - the Salmon Meal "GO" looks very nice! Plus, it's all life stages - so no switching later required. They also have canned Salmon AND Trout - so you can have some variety w/ kibble and 2 canned, awesome!

What kind of problems has Wellness had? That Petcurean food.....the first ingredient is a meat and then there is tons of other things...then meat again. That is ok? I was under the impression that meat or meat meal should should up at least 2 or 3 times within the first amount of ingredients. Or am I mistaken? | |

| Hi Marc, Meat should be in the first 3 or 4 ingredients, but meat meal is actually better--if it just says for example "chicken" you might think that is great--but it can contain as much as 80% water--so when dehydrated down would be much farther down on the list---I've studying dog nutrition extensively--will be glad to help. |

| Hey all. I have another "food" related question so I dug up this thread. If the bag of food says says half a cup a day to eat for the weight of the dog...and the dog eats that all and is looking for more come evening time....do you five more or should that amount be accurate enough? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It depends - so, are you feeding the 1/2 cup only in the morning right now? I feed 2x per day, bc unless you're strict prey model - I just don't think it's good for dogs to be eating 1x per day . As for proper amounts, the guideline is good - but you can also use your dog's weight and condition as a good guide. Feeling the ribs is always good - as in, they should feel "just right" - not too prominent, not too buried.
