| Oh, no, The Operation... Well, it's that time. Sargie is 16 months old and needs The Operation. It appears that his testicles have never descended, plus the trainers said it would certainly improve the housebreaking situation which hasn't gone that well as he is constantly marking (outside and in stores etc.) and just doesn't go in one place inside. I am very nervous about this because he is small (not for a Yorkie - 4.5 lb or so - but compared with all the retrievers and shepherds etc. I see at the vet's) and he had a terrible reaction to a flea medication which I always blamed on his size (although that may not have been the right assumption). Someone told me they do a blood test first to ascertain how the dog will handle anasthaesia. I would appreciate reassuring words from others who have had tiny pups go through this. Thanks! |

| I just had my lil guy neutered on Wednesday. One of his little buddies never desended either. So the vet made an incision and had to go up into the abdomen to get it out. I was a bit of a wreck when I saw the size of the incision on my 4.4 lb puppy. He was super groggy & sore the first night and next day....the vet sent pain meds home with him. He had a cone on his head that the vet said he would have to wear for 2 weeks and to keep him quiet until his incision was healed and stitches were out. Ok, we are on day 5 and he is running around like a little maniac...actually he was doing this on day 3....hard to keep him quiet, he's a puppy after all. I keep a close eye on his incision and make sure he isn't licking when I give him a break from the cone. One of the YT's gave me a great idea & said to put a baby onesie on him to keep him away from the incision and it totally works. Give that a try if you need to. Rest assured, your little guy will be just fine. I think it is harder on us to see them go through it then for them sometimes. We will send positive thoughts and good energy your way for the big day.

| Thanks For The Wishes! Hi there folks! I have not been able to get back on a computer since I posted this and now I am on vacation and have one here at the inn...so I decided to check my thread. Thanks so much for the wishes and prayers and the advice, especially regarding the operation when the vet has to go inside...I had read something about a onesie on here before...which I would prefer to those cones (that always reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where they wanted to make a person wear one of them because "those are funny!" The German shepherd in the yard behind has been wearing one for weeks and - oh, I really dislike them and I can imagine what Sargie would do..) What kind of a onesie, a regular baby one? Anyway, he will have the operation the first part of next month, I guess...I feel a bit foolish because I never understood how people got so worked up over dogs...until I had Sargie. Now I know how my mother felt when she used to worry about me! Thanks again for the kind words, I will let everyone know how he does. Chris and Sargie |

| Onesies Quote:
I purchased a package of 5 at Target for $8.99 (0-3 mos size) they fit my lil guy just fine. He has learned when I am going to put them on and resists a bit but I persuade & distract him with treats. Most of the time I have him with me and I don't have the cone or the onesie on him because I can watch him....he has been really good and hasn't bothered it much at all. I know, I never understood how people could get so attached to their dogs until I got one...now I totally get it. I've joined the club.
