| Confused as to what food is most used with Yorkies I have a nine month old Yorkie. I started her out on Science Diet puppy chow. I had always used that before(not Yorkies). I took my puppy to training and she recommended Solid Gold. Holly doesn't seem to care for it. I want to get her on a food she will like that is all natural. Can you all give me some advice. This is my first Yorkie. |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Welcome to YT!! I am currently feeding Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Sweet Potatoe and Fish.......it was recommended to because it helps for those with sensative tummies and allergies. In the past, I have used Royal Canine Puppy & Yorkshire but my yorkies itched alot and I have used Pro Plan but it bothered Magic's tummy....and I did not like using two different foods. (I have also used a prescription food for awhile with Magic.) At one point there was a survey posted asked what foods everyone used....and there was quite a variety. Good luck in finding a food that works for your yorkie! (My only recommendation is to switch foods slowly...as alot of times these little yorkies can get tummy issues from switching too quickly.)

| If you go to the main forum for diet and health you will see the first 2 threads, one is regarding packaged food and the other is for home cooking. I use Merrick for Milo, oh and I have seen they are making a Yorkie Talk cookbook also. Hope these help |

| My first Yorkie was on Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul. It is a very good natural food. My newest baby has been eating Fromm Family canned food. It is made from "people" food and Sydney LOVES it. Hope you can find something your baby will like. |

| We use Advoderm, its made all natural and from avacados and its really good for the coats. We have a larger breed dog that has a sensative stomach and had itching. He has stopped itching and loosing his hair since we have him on this food. The yorkie does good well with it as well. I give them alittle canned food with the dry only a small amount. I buy the treats in this brand as well and we have no issues at all. I had to do alot of researching foods before I came onto this one. Good luck.

| I first found Avoderm in a small pet shop of supplies. But now PetSmart is carrying it. They have all the different types and canned , dry and treats. Its all I get now. All the dogs are happy with the food and I only by the lamb or chicken type. I think the dogs do better with those. I was happy to find that PetSmart handles it now as it use to take me awhile to drive at the other store.

| There is a sticky at the top of this section that give you info on how to request samples from various companies. That way you can try them out and see which you like best. Even those that wont' send samples send great coupons. |

I don't recommend raw at all, so someone else would have to help you there.
