| Seriously then...is there a safe treat to give our dogs? I posted about the chicken strips though I guess I knew the answer. My quesiton, it do you not give your dogs treats, and if so, what is okay? Ive given greenies, dingos, chicken strips, and other treats and had no problems at all. I know it would only take one time though so I am not willing to take that chance. But my dogs love treats and I love to give it to them. Ive heard of some of you giving your pets things like green beans or banana pieces but none of my dogs would touch any of that stuff. In fact when I have given them food like Merricks that has any vegies in it...they eat around them. I asked if it was okay to give a tiny piece of low fat cheese and also asked about a tiny piece of bacon and was told no to these also. So what in the world is there to give? /thanks for your input |

| Thanks for posting this - I'd like to know too. Bailey eats pig skins too fast. The vet recommended raw hides - but she eats those too fast too. So "this week" we're trying thick rolled up raw hides from Hartz. She chews on them without eating them - which is good. But then I read not to give them bleached raw hides?? I don't like the thought (or smell - from what I've heard) of bully sticks - but I know that several yorkie mommies use 'em. I am so open to suggestions... As far as quick treats - I give Bailey cheese, cheerios and dehydrated deer meat (hubby is a hunter) - and she always gets a couple bites of whatever we have for dinner. I did read the other day to stuff kongs and then freeze 'em. So, we did a few of those - but they only lasted about 10-15 minutes. But I do like the idea and will continue to do so.

| There are a couple of YT members who make homemade treats that are wonderful -- chattiesmom makes Yorkie Yummies that Franklin goes nuts for. diggy4 also makes Cookies and Kisses that seem to be a hit. We have not tried them yet but plan to soon! Or.. you can make your own! There are some good recipes for homemade treats on the Health and Diet forum If you have to buy pet store treats.. I've heard Old Mother Hubbard treats are good, they're made by the same company that makes Merrick. I'm not for sure on this though. We use Yorkie Yummies, OMH treats, cheerios, and little bits of cheese. Franklin also LOVES LOVES apples and cucumbers. Fruits are sweeter than vegetables so maybe you can try those? ETA -- oh, and as far as chews go, the only thing Franklin gets is bully sticks although there seem to be sort of a controversy about them now. I'll continue to give them until I find something better. :/ It's either that or the furniture.

| I have never had a problem with cow ears. Mine chew on them all the time. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I'll give my two the Old Mother Hubbard treats occasionally. Ruby is not a chewer so I don't have to worry too much about giving her treats that last. Reno is though and I got a teething toy (worm) that makes a crackling noise that he loves to chew. It can be frozen to relieve teething discomfort for puppies. They haven't had any bully sticks in months now, and won't again after the horror stories I've seen posted recently.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | We use carrots and apple slices. Also, the health food dog store I go to has dehydrated chicken chips. We gave up on bully sticks and all chew things except for nylabones and kongs or pressed rawhide. |

| Boomer has got to be the only dog on the planet that doesn't like yorkie yummies OR bully sticks In fact I just sent what I had bought for him home with my grand-yorkie. He LOVES them!! Guess he's just not a food motivated guy

I forgot about the apple slices. I've dehydrated those before and Reno loves them! In fact he loves them so much, I have to be careful he doesn't get too many. He will eat them like I would (like to, anyway) Lays potato chips, one after the other!

| What are Yorkie Yummies? My dogs wont eat any fruit or vegetables so those are out for me. I would love to find a chew type as well as a daily treat that was healthy. Am glad you all use cheese too...usually that is our treat before I leave for work. Mine also dont like bisquit type treats and I think thats what the Mother Hubbard treats are. I hope we continue to get more ideas. |

| Our first yorkie was a bigger girl probably 7+ lbs or so. But Ava is so tiny, so several treats we let the bigger girl have Ava, is just to little for. but for little guys to just have as a quick snack http://www.petco.com/product/10167/C...og-Treats.aspx I think those are great our little ava loves them and will do any trick she can.
