Here are some websites that help you compare different dog foods. IMO Science Diet is one of the worst brands out there. Nothing but fillers & cancer causing agents. http://www.flintriverranch.org/comparison.html http://www.feedmypet.com/dog-food-comparison.html Canidae & Innova are the 2 top dog food brands, IMO.

We've posted many times on this subject. Please use the search feature on this forum. Just recently, for example, I posted a LONG post listing links to dog foods recommended by the WHole Dog Journal as well as an article explaining why commerical dog foods are bad for your dogs health.

Royal Canin is definitely better than science diet, but is still not the best food available. Check out the whole dog journal for the best dog foods. I give my boys Innova small bites. Healthy and tasty

| The breeder had my boy on pro plan...he ate it in the mornings chopped up with syrup on it for breakfast...but the regular dry kibble he just wouldn't eat during the day. He's 6 months old now and shows no signs of hypoglycemia so I wanted to wean him off of the syrup. After many reads here, I bought royal canine last weekend hoping to change. He LOVES it! He doesn't even want his "breakfast blend" anymore. I'm so glad too. It's better for him and now I know he will eat a regular dry kibble during the day now. I highly recommend it. I bought the puppy food for small breeds and plan to change as it says, at 10 months to the adult for small breeds. Of course he still wants his boiled chicken at night, but that I can handle...got to spoil him in some ways!

Royal canine's master marketing 1) Royal Canine is very high in fat and oils - great for show coats - bad for pet Yorkies who spend most of the day lying around the house and tend to be on the plump side - think:diabetes, cushings, heart disease. 2) Royal Canine has spent fortunes trying to get Yorkie breeders hooked on the products. - Here's what I mean: I've competed and/or attended Yorkie Specialties since R.C. first introduced thier Yorkie food. The first year, they hosted a cocktail hour, gave out free copies of thier dog encyclopedia, free 5 pound bags of food, free tote bags, coupons and even signed breeders up to be part of a "club" in which they could get more discounts and coupons - and here's the kicker - FOR PUPPY BUYERS. (the following year, in Orlando - they oudid themselves by hosting a boat ride/casino night!). Makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective. To a new puppy buyer, 1) the breeder is god - what she says you do, you do and 2) the puppy is already weaned (i.e. hooked) on the stuff when its brough home to its new owner! Now I am not saying that R.C. is a terrible food to give your dog. It's O.K. As I mentioned, probably not great for housedogs. I would be dishonest to say I havent' fed it to my own dogs. My mother, father and I all attended the show in Reading. So we EACH came home with a five pound bag of the stuff. So for the next three months, my dogs eat nothing but R.C.! Until, I noticed the expanding waist lines!
