| Puppy eats his own waste??????? Our yorkie is about 9-10 weeks old. We just switched his diet from Eukanuba to Science Diet and ever since then we catch him eating his own poo. What do we do??? We switched food because he wouldn't eat the Eukanuba at all. Any suggestions??? |

| My little guy attempts this as well. He just turned 11 weeks old today and I feed him Nature's Variety. When I catch him, im quick to give him an ACK! and he stops and moves on but I am surprised that he tries to do that. I'd like to have some advice on the subject as well. |

| I have the same problem with Holly, but she is 9 mos old. I would think she should be growing out of that. It isn't her's she eats. It is my hymalain cat. I have to always Taffy's litter bos and make sure it is clean. |

| I found that walking on a harnessed/leash prevents this problem. Also, I go out with a plastic bag and clean up right after our YT. It is difficult when housebreaking to watch them every minute so "the eating problem" is, I think, natural to pups. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | There are quite a few threads on this; some people have had success with unseasoned meat tenderizer sprinkled on their food. The ingredient makes their poop unappetizing. There is also something sold at the pet store for this. If you use meat tenderizer make sure it's the unseasoned kind, otherwise they are getting too much salt. For more information you might want to read this: http://www.squidoo.com/whydogseatpoop They usually outgrow this. Mama did this for them, at least they don't expect you to do it!

| Hi! The product that you can get at the petstore is called Deter. It works right away. As a side note, I'd take another look at your dog food. Science Diet isn't the best food. Take a look at this dog food grading. It tells how to grade your food, and it also gives a list of a lot of foods. Look for one with an A (or B) rating. Good Luck!!

| I have used Science Diet food in the past because my vet sold it. When we got our yorkie I wanted to give her the best food. We started with a trainer at 7 mos. She recommended Solid Gold food. We have been using it for about a month now and see a difference in her coat, etc. What do all use? It is an all natural food. |

| I love Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul. All three of mine eat it and have absolutely no problems. Lexie was eating her poop when she was on Nutro, but as soon as I switched, the problem was solved. I would definitely get off the Science Diet. Vets get paid to recommend it, it's really not very good. |

| Feed a Grade AAA food. The lower quality foods like Science Diet don't digest as much so in essence it tastes as good coming out as it did going in. Also make sure your dog eats slow, feed him one bite at a time if necessary. I also heard on TV, "Its Me or the Dog" that feeding them Pineapple will make their poop taste really nasty.

| My first yorkie, Briley, loved Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul. My newest baby, Sydney, hated it. (She won't eat dry) She gets Fromm Family canned. It's made with human food and she loves it. |
