| Dead Tooth!?!? The other day I noticed my little Roxy's canine tooth was reddish/brownish and took her to the vet. He said her tooth was dead/dying. Has anyone ever had this happen? He said that the options are a root canal or extraction. The only opening I have found for a consultation is a month away and I'm worried that it could get worse by then. The lady said Roxy would be fine until then. I am wondering if anyone has a story they can share? What is the procedure? What is the outcome? What are the costs? Also does anyone know of any dog dentists in San Diego County? Any information would be a tremendous help! Thanks a bunch!

| Lilly my 9 month old Yorkie just came from the vet yesterday. She has double eye teeth / canine teeth. They would have been removed at time of spay but she is our little rescue and rescue had a pediatric spay done prior to us adopting her at 13 weeks. Thursday morning she has to go in for a dental and have her double teeth removed. My reason for taking her to the vet was because one of her teeth (baby tooth) that was doubled was brown and it was also spit in half. So yeah I'm right there with you. I'm very nervous over having her put under on Thursday. She's just 4 lbs. Elaine |

| Oh and sorry I can't help you with cost in Sandiego. I'm from NJ and the cost here for just a cleaning is around $200. My guess with two extractions that I'm going to be right around the $300 or more range Can't your vet do a dental on her? Usually the vet will do the dental. Elaine |

| See my thread entitled "I'm Nervous". My older Yorkie went in for dental work, which turned out to be much more than either of us expected. It all turned out just fine, however...but it is a bit scary. It sounds like yours will not be as drastic. My vet here charges about 150.00 for a cleaning. Stanford's bill for the more extreme stuff that was needed came to a bit over 350.00. Best, Matthew |

| teeth How old is your Yorkie? There will be a big difference in the cost of removing the tooth and saving the tooth...pulling will be several hundred, root canal and a cap will be several thousand....if you have the finds to save the tooth, that is great. |

| Mascot The reason the tooth is brown is because the root inside is dead, It won't hurt other then esthitic reasons to wait to get it fixed, root canal is better then extraction but is more costly, but what I am saying is you can save the money if you need to... the tooth will wait. Your baby should not be in pain, once the tooth is dead there is no feelings left, and if it is brown it is dead. Usually a dead tooth comes from blunt trauma(meaning he hit his tooth on something) which may not be very much trauma for their lil teeth. I have only dealt with human teeth, but I hope this helps, by the way to have a tooth pulled can cause other teeth to eventually shift.... I don't know if this would be a problem other then esthetically (for looks).... but when you remove a tooth and don't have a spacer put in, the other teeth will shift around, turn, and move... (I don't think their is such a thing as a puppy spacer...but who knows) I am new to having a yorkie myself, just not new to teeth. Dot
