| Teeth and Spade Surgery Korki is schedule for spade and tooth removal Feb 29th. She had a mess of teeth that need to go and she is so small I think spading is our only choice. We drop her off in the morning and pick her up at 5 that evening. Being it's a Friday can anyone suggest any comfort measures I can be prepared for? Korki is 8 months old and almost 3 pounds. It's very scary going under anesthesia and then all day without food. She crashed on me once and I never want to go there again. The Vet said a week later she'll have her stitches out. Will spading quite her down any? She is so full of energy. |

| Well she may or may not come home with meds.. Layla had her teeth pulled and other than being drowsy from the anethesia she ate like nothing was wrong! When Layla had her spay, she was very sore... we also had it done on a Friday and she did not come hom e with meds... but that seemed to work ok... she needed help standing to pee at first and took a good 3-4 days to be back to normal. you should go buy some babies onesies and use those instead of the e-collar. Good luck! |

| Dumb question, what is an e-collar? I hate that she's going to be sore. |

| an e collar is probably what your vet is going to try and get you to put around her head so she doesn't lick her stiches. it's like a cone that goes around her neck. the onesies are much more comfortable for them. |

| ohhh that makes sense. I wonder if I can find a onesies to fit. Perhaps a premee? She is sooo small. Thanks for the tip. I want to keep her as comfortable as possible. Stitches?.....NO! |

| Korki will do great! Hello There! My lil girl Destiny is really tiny too. I had her spade about the same time and she was between 2lb10oz and 2lb12oz at the time. I was very nervous, but would rather face that, than an unwanted pregnancy. She did just fine and was also NOT on meds when she left the drs. However, because of her size, the dr recommended that they observe her overnight. They didn't charge me extra for this at all so I knew she was sincere. I bought onesies but didn't even end up using them. I just stayed home and watched her every move for several days. She didn't really bother with the incision and there were no stiches to remove. She was a little bruised but that was about it. She moved slow for a while but was up and at 'em in no time. Fortunately, she's put on a lil weight since then and is now a whopping 3lbs3ozs! Yay! Best of luck and we'll keep Korki in our prayers! Please PM me if you have any more questions! Take care!

| Spaying didn't slow Ellie down a bit. I used a onesie after surgery. No food is a concern for small Yorkies but the vet should be able to handle that because they SHOULD give her IV fluids. I would be nervous also though. Ellie was in pain even with meds. Some girls take it worse than others. Please insist on pain meds. They might even make her sleepy which is good for healing.

| Sadie had her done last week on a friday! She is bigger than your baby at 4lbs 6 oz. She shook quite a bit the first night and seemed really out of it. it was hard to see b/c i couldn't make it better I recommend the onesies also to help keep her from licking the area. I swear Sadie dried out her skin doing this and i think it made it pull. She was better by Sat. morning and was just kinda lazy for a few days. She has had no problems and i was surprised how well her incision is healing. They used the glue so we do not have to go back and have stitches removed. She also had teeth pulled. We had a little bleeding but nothing to worry about and she got to eat hot dogs and other soft foods for a day or two. Everything will go well. She's a strong little one and will be back to herself in no time |

| Lizzie was spade last Friday.....she also had 4 teeth pulled. When we brought her home around 3 she was really out of it....she wanted to sleep but kept having some sort of bad nightmares..like the terrors....I slept downstairs on the floor with her....(in floor heating) and around 2 am she was back to herself..asking to go outside to go potty....was sore for a couple of days...still doesnt like to jump on the couch..or go up her doggie stairs to get on the bed...I think shes a little spoiled from this.... we also gave her canned food for a couple of days until her mouth healed.... she doesn't get her stitches out until next Friday....14 days... almost forgot to say....good luck....everything will be fine Last edited by lilfoot; 02-21-2008 at 02:51 PM. |

| My Sadie goes to get spayed in 3 weeks.... They want to get this done at 5 months so she doesn't have a first heat.... I think it sound young but I understand they don't want the first heat. I know some one who's puppy had her first heat and the vet told them to bring the puppy right in. He did the spay while she was in her heat!!!! (Not my vet) I asked my vet about it and he said he doesn't recamend this but he has heard it be done before. She will be chipped and have teeth pulled also!!!! I hate it.

| Oh I hate it too. It seems like so much for something so little. But our Korki is a ball of energy. Maybe this will calm her down a bit. She's never been hurt or scolded much. Pretty spoiled. I' have included a few pictures of her. We weighted her at lunch and she's just 2.4 lbs...sheesh. I went yesterday looking for onesies and no premies to be found. The 3 months ones look huge. I even looked in doll clothes with no luck. I'll spend this weekend looking. Last edited by kdp; 02-22-2008 at 01:50 PM. |

| Today is surgery day. I felt really bad leaving Korki this morning. She was in such a great mood and wanted to drive the darn car. She always sits on my chest, I'm not sure why but we notice the outside world on the way to the vet. She was so happy. The vet called me at 10 and said everything went very well. He spade her and removed a few teeth. He did use stitches so we'll go back and have them taken out next week. I'll pick her up at 5 and plan on spending the weekend spoiling her. I got some low fat vanilla pudding just in case she wont eat. I'll post an update on her condition later. |
