| Has anyone used ProMeris for fleas and ticks? Has anyone used ProMeris for fleas and ticks? My vet just switched my dog over to it. Also, does anyone know if fleas and ticks live outside after a frost? Do you use flea and tick medicine all year round? I always have but was wondering. I live in Michigan.

| I have not tried it. I live in Michigan also and was using Advantix. I heard some things I didn't like about it and switched to Frontline but haven't had to use it yet. I only medicate for fleas if it is absolutely necessary (if I see any on Ellie). So no, I don't do it in the winter. Since they are pesticides I won't do it if it's not necessary.

| Wow, I really messed up my first sentence LOL With promeris, it is supposed to last up to 6 weeks. They use a new active ingredient so fleas shouldn't be immune to it like they are with some of the products that have been out awhile.

Ellie's vet likes Frontline but because there are 9 vets in the practice they sell just about everything. It is owners preference... If you like Advantage and your dogs don't react, then why change?

| I live in a very small town, and my vet has his own office, working alone with 2 assistants. He's too small to carry large supplies of everything (advantix, frontline & promeris). He did say if promeris doesn't go over very well, he will stock up on advantix again; and I can also buy advantix elsewhere. My vet just thinks promeris might be better because it works longer that advantix. I'm still on the fence; just getting different opinions.

I didn't really like that it left a sticky residue on the dogs...frontline does that too, but advantage does not. The cat one smelled really good too (but the dog one didn't have much smell). ProMeris should never be available online as it can ONLY be sold by a vet. You won't be able to just buy it over the counter at any store like the other flea products. ProMeris will only sell to vets and they want it to stay a product that only vets sell

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Promeris must really be paying vets to sell their products. How many of us have just recently learned our vet's switched from selling frontline or advantix? And mine used to give glowing reports for frontline. Now they tell me...it didn't work for some people. Okay...but it always worked for me so I got the prescription and bought it elsewhere. The promeris costs more than the frontline did...although I admit I wasn't aware it last 6 weeks...they offered me a 4 month supply and the cost was cost to what frontline cost me for 6 months. The only negative the vet gave on the promeris was the smell. My vet is also switching from selling chewable heartgard...to a pill form. Now mine liked those little liver favored heartgards...they were easy to give.

| Promeris yes Promeris is more expensive and it stinks. I don't know why my vet switched over to it. Probably the company is pushing it. The only reason he's on that and not Revolution is because he is a poop eater. They said put it on him once a month, I didn't know it lasted six weeks.

| I just received this: I have not verified it, but wouldn't take any chances. Hi Everyone— the following message is from a very good friend. If you don't have a pet, please pass this on to anyone you know you may have a cat or dog....very important. This is a very important message to my family & friends who have dogs—cats--and to alert you to the hazard of using a new Flea & Tick Preventative called ProMeris http://www.promeris.com/consumer/ . This is a new product designed to be a more effective product than other flea/tick treatments that was just released this year. It is available thru a vet and not currently on-line. I got ProMeris this week for my 7 dogs (6 Huskies & 1 Golden-Airedale), and the results were debilitating for nearly all of them—including me. Since my incident this week, my vet has pulled it from distribution and alerted the manufacturer, Fort Dodge. Here are my results: Within less than 2 hours after applying, 4 of my dogs had vomited from 2-4 times, 3 were disoriented and stumbling, 1 was dragging his back leg, 1 was salivating. I had very similar symptoms like an allergic reaction—my lips were swollen, eyes very red, mucous membranes such as eyes, nose, and mouth were stinging. I was very disoriented—dizzy equilibrium and not able to drive. To make this a short story—all 7 of my dogs were admitted to the hospital for veterinarian care, and 3 of them remained for care, IV fluids and observation for 24 hours. I was in the emergency room. I’m home now and so are the dogs. We’re all feeling much better. Vet bills were over $2,500 and Fort Dodge is paying for these. Not only can the product cause this reaction, it has a highly noxious odor that permeated the house and is just starting to dissipate after 3 days. Your dogs/cats might not have the same reaction, but given my experience—I wanted to help you all become well-educated about the product. I do know after receiving this e-mail- i will not be trying this- i already had a bad experience with another flea treatment. |
