New yorkie owner with a question Hi, this is my 1st post. We have a 14 week old male yorkie. He has a ton of energy, eats, drinks, plays, pee's, and poops. About once or twice an hour he does this gag (not sure if it's vomiting or coughin). Every once in a while i notice that he has vomiting up his food. But his energy is still good and he's running and eating/sleeping. no change in bowel habits. He was also diagnosised with Giardias and we are going to begin treatment today. Any thoughts on what this could be? Could this be due to his giardia? Thanks. John

It could. Puppies also eat alot of stuff they shouldnt & it can get caught in their throats. I would bring it to your vets attention.

Did your vet mention to you that giardia can be transmitted to people? Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly, especially right after you play with him or clean up his poop.

Donating Yorkie Yakker | did you ask? Ask the vet if he thinks it's kennel cough-skippy had it as well as giardia when we got him, an antibiotic took it away. |

Thanks everyone for all your advise. Since begining and now finishing the treatment for his Giardia, I noticed that he is gagging much much less. Maybe like once a day; sometimes not even at all. So maybe the Giardia was giving him an upset stomach. Not sure, but he seems fine. John

Glad your baby is doing better. These little guys are living, breathing, vacuum cleaners! I agree that some of the gagging could be from picking up stuff in his mouth. I have to watch Scooter like a hawk! A couple of days ago, he was outside and trying to get a huge earwig in his mouth! Gross!!!

Any suggestions about house breaking my yorkie? we use the piddle pads and he seems to pee on them all the time, which is great. But the funny thing is that he will only poop on them when we are home with him; when he is on his own he will poop near the piddle pad, but hardely ever on it. What gives? -John
