| Infected Incision From Spay!!!! Abby got spayed a few weeks ago as some of you may know. They gave me antibiotics to prevent infection, which I gave her. Now it's all red and puffy. She's also started getting diarrea I'm pretty sure it's infected. I really have no idea how it happened. I tried to get her in today (earlier) but the earliest they have is tomorrow at 5. Look how bad it is... Do you think she'll be ok waiting that long??

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | From the pictures, it doesn't look horrible. I'm a nurse, if it makes you feel any better. The pics are a bit blurry, but it appears red and swollen - is it "open" at all? It doesn't look to be. But it probably is infected, in some way. The 4 signs of infection are always: redness, pain, heat, and swelling. She should be just fine until tomorrow. Do you have any left over antibiotics that are still good? You could give those. Poor baby! I could be an abscess or something. Please keep us posted!

| Thanks! and no it isnt open at all. I have touched it a million times, and she doesnt act like she's in pain. but she keeps biting and scratching at it (of course I'm trying to keep her from doing this). So you dont think the diarrea has anything to do with an infection? Oh great, another problem

| Poor little Abby. Get well wishes from Maddie, Libby and I! Maddie got an infection in her incision about 4 days after her spay. It looked somewhat like Abby, but it was just on one end, and hers did drain. She was put on antibiotics and got better quickly. How long has it been since Abby was on the antibiotics? Maybe that has caused her diarrhea? I'm glad you can get her in tomorrow! *HUG*

| Is that a knot or bump? Could be staff infection, be safe take her back to the vet asap, it is surgical complications there should be no charge. She may be allergic to antibiotics, they will cause diareah, give her some yogurt everyday & see if that helps mine likes walmart strawberry. But I would take her in & let the vet see it forsure. Some say not to wash the incision others say warm water & dial soapcan be used. I always wiped it with antibacterial soap & warm water to keep infection away. Hope everything gets better. |

| Does look like an infection. Angel's incision also became infected, but hers was right away and had lots of oozing along with it. A simple round of antibiotics and she was fine. Will be thinking of you and Chelsea till you can get her to the vet.

| Thanks everyone. No there is no oozing or draining of anything. Although it looks like it should, this morning I noticed it looks a lot like a blister.. like there's some type of liquid in it. And Connie, Abby's infection is just on one end as well. I dont know why it waited this long.. Its been almost a month! I'll let everyone know what the vet says.

| They said it was just a normal reaction that can take up to 2 months to go away. We were only there for 2 mintues. They didnt even charge us for the visit, which is a plus . So I guess nothing's wrong. But I forgot to ask about the diarrea. I guess I'll wait and see if it gets any worse. Like someone said it might just be an allergy to the antibiotics, which are finished now anyway. thanks everyone for the concern

I'm not a vet, so I can't say for sure. You might want to have it checked to be on the safe side, but it does looke EXACTLY like Chloe's did. She had a red puffy bubble that lasted two days like that. This occured 3 weeks after her spay. It actually had looked better before that. Now, a few days later, it looks good again.

| From the pictures, she looks red on more than her incision. Did you feel the vet gave her a good checkup? One more question - do you use Banfield's vet services?

And no, I do not use Banfield's service. My vet is called "Highland Heights Animal Hospital." But may I ask why?

This is actually what happened to me with Chloe too. The girl at the front desk took her back for the vet to quickly look at, and they came back and said it's fine. When I started asking questions, they said I could go in for a visit if it would make me feel better. So I did, and the vet looked her over really good and said the same thing, LOL. I guess it just feels more official when you pay $34.95 for it.
