| dog's sick after rabie shot, please help! Since he got his rabie shot last week, he has been trembling every night. and for the last 4 days, he hasn't been eating. i fed him dry food, 3 kinds of can food, and now human food, and he just wont eat. He normally chow down all human food we give him, but he just smells and turn his head. I dont know what to do with him. he threw up once 2 nights ago, so i brought him back to the vet and the vet says there's nothing wrong with him, and accidently gave him another rabie shot. I was pissed but i found out after he came back out. I complained to the nurse up front but nothing much i can do. so he's back to hurting again and wont let us pick him up since then. He looks tired and just wanna lie around. It seems like the only thing he will eat is his nutrical. Does it sound like he is sick? |

| I'm so sorry to hear about your furbaby! I don't know offhand if he's sick but I googled canine rabies vaccination side effects... (from http://www.knoxvet.com/FAQ.html#VaccSideFX) "Most modern vaccines have minimal side effects, although some individuals will react more strongly to a vaccination than others. The most common reaction seen among those pets who have a reaction is a short period of lethargy (increased sleeping and inactivity) or mild fever. If such a reaction occurs, a wait-and-watch attitude is usually the best way to respond - they will feel better in a day or so. Some might develop a local reaction in the skin, which is usually a pea to marble-sized firm lump under the skin. These reactions can show up anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks after the vaccine is given, and although usually nothing to be overly concerned about, they should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian. The most serious short term problem which could happen is a strong allergic (anaphylactic) reaction. These reactions typically occur anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours after the vaccination is given. In dogs, this generally has one or more of the following symptoms: hives, extreme itchiness of the face and skin, red splotches on the skin, pale tongue and gums, difficulty breathing, and sudden weakness. Although an antihistamine may help slow down the reaction, if your dog has any of these signs it is very important to have him or her checked out as soon as possible. Cats rarely have this type of reaction, but it is possible and should be examined if noticed. Overall, these reactions occur very infrequently. The diseases the vaccines help prevent are a much more serious threat to your pets' health than the potential vaccine reaction. If you have any concerns or if your pet has a 'family' history of vaccine reactions, please discuss the issues with your veterinarian." The only thing I would say is if your vet accidentally administered another vaccine, maybe you should look into another vet.

| Please take your dog to a different vet today. A reaction should not last this long and he needs to eat. I would also be concerned that he got a double dose of something that he is reacting to.

| My baby girl got sick also. In fact, her sugar bottomed out the following morning and she ended up in a coma. I almost lost her. I don't know how much your baby weighs but be careful this does not happen to yours. Keep your syrup handy! Good luck |

| Please change vets. That is totally unacceptable in my opinion. Take him to see the new vet right away. You know that something is wrong, and you know your dog the best. Even if it's not a shot reaction, he could have picked up something else while you were at the vet's office. Prayers for your little one and please keep us updated.

| Thanks all. I was going to bring him back to the vet if he doesnt get better, but it seems like he is ok today. i gave him human food (some chopped up pork with rice) and he seems to be eating a bit. And i havent seen vomite lately. But one thing is he still trembles every night. I dont know if he is cold or what? but he shakes for a few mins and once i cover him with a blanket, it seems to go away. But, I dont think its that cold in the house, but he does have very thin hair and has been sick quite a few times since I got him 3 months ago. I will see for another few days, if he still shakes, i will bring him back. |
