AHHH! Sarge has mucous and a small amount of blood in his stool. I'm taking a stool sample to the vet this afternoon. Anyone know what it could be? Should I be this worried?? I've heard it's sometimes normal, but I don't know...HELP.

My puppy had this when we first got her and she was diagnosed with Coccidia. Hopefully, your puppy does not have this and that he gets better very quickly!

Well at this point I'm practically hoping for coccidia, because I believe thats easily treated with Albon. He is getting moved around alot because I am away at college and I come home to my parent's house on the weekends, taking him with me of course. I just don't want it to be parvo or something scary like that. I guess I just shouldn't worry so much until I know what it is for sure.

I would think that your puppy would be extremely ill and even lethargic if it was Parvo. If I were you,I would ask my vet to test for Coccidia and Giardia. Have you switched his food lately?

Yes actually, I put him on wet food mixed with his normal kibble becacuse he didn't want the kibble anymore, (Eukanuba the breeder said he was eating). And in hopes he would stay on dry food I switched to diamond because it doesn't have corn in it, which I heard causes problems. He loves the new food, but I know it could upset his tummy to switch like that. I just didn't want him to starve and he refuses anything with the old kibble in it.

It could be the change in food. I know sometimes it's hard to gradually change, because they refuse to eat the old food. I'd take him to the vet on Monday if it doesn't stop.

I'm taking him to the vet in 2 hours. Thankfully my vet is open on weekends... He's playful and happy and getting into trouble as usual, thats his only symptom...

Probably from the food change or stress. My Pom has colitis and stress or food changes cause bloddy, mucosy poop. SOmetimes it's all blood. Hope you get good news at the vet

The vet may use Metronidozole to get rid of the bad bacteria and sooth the internal organs..

It's just coccidia, he's on albon for a few days. But she said it's very treatable and he'll be fine. As I previously said, he's perfectly happy and playful, so I guess I will stop my worry. She said the food change is OK if he was completely rejecting his other food I don't have much of a choice with slow transitioning. So, all is well. Thanks for all of your posts.

I am glad that's what it was and not Parvo. We can't help worring about these little babies. He should feel better soon.
