| pain when peeing-then stops HELP Ruby is 7 month old, last night she peed at like 7 no problem and then at 10 before bed with no problem. I put her in the crate and she was tapping the door at 1am so i told her to go back to sleep and she did, she did it a couple times-nothing major but at 4 I got up and took her out. She squatted to pee and she jumped right up and yelped! I was like well maybe there was something in the grass that startled her or something but I picked her up to console her. I brought her to a diff. pee spot and she did the same thing, she squatted and as soo as she did she yelped and got right up! I feel so bad for her, she pup has to pee and for some reason she can't. I brought her into bed with me and then at 7 I got up and brought her out and same thing but no yelping. so she needs to go but can't. Has this happened to anyone before? Please any advise.... She eats Merrick puppy kibble just incase your wondering. Also I brought her to petco with me yesterday and decided to get her washed, toe nails cut and a minor trim-my husband is blaming petco but I don't think we can because she peeed 2 times after getting home from there without a problem. She was spayed on Aug. 22 so I don't think it could be anything as a result of that. Please help.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Poor honey! I would check her over really good - down btwn her legs bc I'm wondering if the groomer knicked a spot of skin near where the pee is coming out, so it burns. Otherwise, it could be a UTI. She's not limping or anything? I'd also touch each back leg, move it around to test for full motion and for soreness - just to make sure it's not leg related.

| I'm thinking a UTI, but the groomer could have knicked her, and that definetly would cause burning and pain. Maybe you could put a little vaseline down their and see if that helps the burning.

| Sounds like she may have a UTI or stones/crystals. She should really be taken to a vet because if she's not urinating properly, it can cause serious problems if the urine gets backed up.

| Just got home from the vet Thanks for your replies. I took her to the emergency vet and they are treating as a UTI with antibiotics, no sign of a nick from the groomer.

| Did they do a urinalysis and urine culture to find out what kind of antibiotics she would need or did they just put her on something like clavamox. Did they check for stones/crystals? I hope she gets better quick!!

| well, they did not test her urine because while we were in the waiting room(total of 3 hours) I took her out for a bit and she actually peed without yelping and no popping right up that was at like 10am this morn so that means it was 12 hrs. since her last pee. She then pooped too so then sure enough I come inside and it is our turn to be seen. The vet would of liked a sample but since she had just gone it wasn't going to happen. She felt her bladder and it felt empty. She said I could continue to stay longer and try to see if we could get a sample but i opted not to between the 45 minute ride there, the 3 hrs. 45 minutes I was there i really just wanted to go home. They gave me the antibiotic clavamox and to follow up in 10 days with our vet and bring a sample to our vet-unless of course something else happens. She has had 1 dose so far and she is pretty perky. Another symptom that she had that I forgot to mention was that she was licking at herself. The vet said that stress could actually bring a UTI come on so I am wondering if being groomed yesterday had anything to do with it. she also said that she does not think she could of caught it from Petco like my husband thought.

Why would you jump to "it must be the groomers fault"? If the dog was nicked then there would be pain while peeing before 10pm. If my whoohoo ws nicked it would hurt right after. I suspect a UTI. If you have ever had one then you know the can come on fast and strong. OUCHY |
