Donating YT 11K Club Member | Belly band problem I feel like such a bad mommy. I put belly bands on Teddy cause he marks around the house, I have started training him all over and he is getting better but he still marks. Well usually I put thin pads under the bands but today i only had this really long thick one my mom gave me for him. So I put it on and I guess it was a little thick cause the belly band was kinda tight but still closed fine. Well I check constantly to see if he pees and didn't notice him pee. Well he went #2 on the pads and then I noticed he wasn't comfortable, he kept moving and trying to lick himself. So i picked him up and his penis looked swollen(the bottom part under the belly band that showed) I took off the belly band and pee fell on top of me and on the floor. The swelling went down cause it was the pee inside of it that was swelling it up. The belly band was too tight i guess because of the pad cause this never happened before. Anyway I cleaned him and he is better but my question is can he get an infection because of this? I don't know if I should put something on it or what..has this happened to anyone before?

| OMG. It might be infected if it's swollen. Have you called the vet for a suggestion. You can never be too cautious. I would suggest not putting anything on it unless you consult the vet first. Does it seem like it's tender. Not that I want for you to sit there and touch his piece every minute, but maybe just to see if he has any pain at all. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck. I hope someone one here can help.

Donating YT 11K Club Member | YEs that's the reason 'cause it is always just right...it's just that this time I used a different pad and that made it a little tight so i think it was holding the circulation, or the pee from coming out.

BANNED! | I would keep it dry and just watch it for any signs of swelling or redness. It probably will be fine and it just got alittle irritated from it being tighter then normal. Its possible that when you removed it your boy just so happened to have to peepee and it was swollen cause he had a little happy boy moment. Don't over stress it, and just keep an eye on it and how much he licks it. if he licks it more then normal it could be a sign of a problem. |

| I think he's ok. There was a post awhile back that I think was referring to the same issue. The peeper part gets this swollen looking bulb thing down lower. Someone thought they had a problem. I personally think it's like when you hold your bladder and it's about to explode. I've had dogs before like that, like when they first get up in the morning, once you take them pp it goes away. I think it's just from holding it sometimes and they just have to potty. I would just keep an eye on him. If it's not all red and icky I'd say he's fine. Just my opinion. If you think it's something else then by all means take him to the vet.

| So what is the belly band? And how is it suppose to help with unwanted marking in the house? My Beau is driving me batty because we are aways having to do remedial potty training (at least that's what I thought). |

| Google belly bands and use a incontience pad (not sanitary napkin); definitely don't make the band too tight.

I am confused about when you say he went # 2 in the belly band. Is is a different kind than this one that wraps around his butt too like a diaper? Last edited by CO_yorkie_momma; 07-04-2007 at 05:27 PM. | |

| I use bb's for my boys too, but my little JPop's hair gets so matted. The others have soft silky hair and it doesn't bother them. Anyone gots suggestions for this problem? |

| Yes, panty liners irritate them and leave them smelling like urine, but I bought "Poise pads" and it really works much better. No irritation, or smelly belly.
