| Small amt of yellow gunk in his eye. Oliver, my shihpoo, had some yellow gunk in his eye this morning. He's also tearing a lot. I trimmed the hair the best I could (he HATES it) and washed it with a little antibacterial soap/wet wash cloth. I will call the vet first thing in the a.m. as they are not open on Sunday. I could call another vet in town that is open on Sunday, but they charge 60.00 just for an office visit. I work at an internal medicine office for people, and that's how much we charge for a nurse practicioner visit. That's a little steep if you ask me. His eye looks good. A little red on the underside of the upper lid. I was wondering if anyone knows of anything OTC I can use until tomorrow?

| Is it one eye or both? It sounds like allergies and you could use children's benadryl until you get to the vet but it could also be an eye infection.

| it could be allergies, which i've concluded that Layla has. Every morning she wakes up with a lot of gunk (white) in her eye... as gross as this is... does his eye area smell bad??? that might be an indication of an eye infection.. poor guy... Layla's eyes for about two weeks watered NON STOP and i think it must have been the pollen from the dandilions because now that they are gone... so is the watering!!! good luck!! |

| Simon does this in the summer (the yellow gunk) and the vet said it was just allergies. I hope that's the case with your little guy~ |

| So far this evening it looks good, no yucky goop. I think it's probably a combination of allergies and too much hair around is eyes. He is less than cooperative when it's face trimming time. So now his left eye is trimmed and the other is still furry. I'll have to get the other eye tomorrow.

| A good collodial silver is awesome for curing any infections. Dont buy the cheap one made from bovine products. You can find one the the health store. You can also wash it out with saline solution. I should add to keep an eye on it. One of the puppies I sold to a girl had some gunk in her eye so she took it to the vet and he said she had started to get an absess behind the eye because of a bit of bacteria that lodged itself in and started to grow. Good thing she had it checked when she did. Hopefully it will be better with the eye drops and antibiotics. Last edited by CO_yorkie_momma; 06-11-2007 at 08:33 AM. |
