| ADVICE PLEASE!! About new baby girl? So we brought home a 12 weeks 1.2 lb little girl last week..pretty small I know but my other girl is also small and from the same breeder....2 days ago I noticed she is having trouble walking...kinda stumbling...she won't eat well and will eat the nutra cal but only her food with broth in it and only the broth...she has had diarrhia and tonight she threw up and does not seem like she is very active,,,never has been...does this sound like a liver shunt? I dont know if I should call the breeder and bring her back...before I end up with high vet bills or worse. This is a much different experience than Lacy... Thanks Stacey |

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | Prayers she will be fine. Hi Stacey, I would definately let the breeder know. I also feel she should be seen by a vet. We also got a new little girl and she was also 12 weeks and weighed 1.4 We had ours vet checked the morning after we got her, our vet recommended that we not let her and Baby Blessing with each other till we was sure that no health issue came up. I am so sorry you are having this problem. Have you tried feeding her a little bit of cooked chicken with little bit of rice, did you change her food when you took her home? Has your puppy gotten started on her shots? Patti |

| Before you go spending all kinds of money on vet bills speak with the breeder, and if she saids take her back do so. If there is something wrong the breeder will take care of getting her well and give her back, but this way you don't spend money that you might not get back. Sorry I have just seen it too many times already.

| Take her to a vet immediately! This could be so many things from hypoglycemia, hydrocephalus, liver shunt, or a neurological problem. I really hate to say this but the problem sounds serious and could very likely be long term and I think you should be prepared to either have the high vet bills (which is common in these little ones) or take her back to the breeder. If you decide to keep her then make sure that she eats well. These little ones can be so finicky and if they don't eat, then their blood sugar can quickly drop. Try this recipe that I got off of here. It helps keep their blood sugar up and they really seem to like it. 1/2 cup goat's milk 1/2 cup Gerber rice cereal 1 jar of Gerber's baby meat (I used beef) 1 tsp. karo syrup It originally used half and half but I replaced it with the goat's milk because the half and half tends to cause diarrhea. You might also want to add a liquid supplement called Rebound that you can get at the vet's office. This will give her all the nutrients and vitamins that she needs. I hope she gets better soon, let us know what you decided!

| Sometimes if they are not eating very much they will get weak and stumble around. Did the breeder have the pups bile acid tested? All Yorkie breeders should have this test done before selling. I do hope your baby isn't a shunt baby. That is serious for sure. Please keep us posted on this. |

| It does sound like it could be liver shunt, but it could be many other things...Take her to get a fecal test and bile acid test ($40-$50) and see what the vet says...If she has liver problems, I would definitely contact the breeder. Do you have a health guarantee from the breeder. Maybe it's hypoglycemia or coccidia...

| new baby too that has gotten sick Hi, This is my first post so I hope I am doing this right. We aslo have a new baby. She is 7 weeks old today, too young to come to her new house in my opinion but the breeder was leaving town and wanted to have then in their new homes by 6 weeks. Anyway, she started vomiting and having diarrhea l on Sunday night at about 11:30. I new about parvo, from another dog 15 years ago. So I called and a vet met me right then, God love him. She had a vacc. on Monday almost a week to the day she started the v and d. Then vet said there is a possiblility she could be testing positive because of the vacc, but the company that makes the parvo test are not completely sure it wont give a false positive. She never got the horrible smell, and did not go down completely, she still was getting up and moving about some. She stayed at the vet and he gave her sub-q fluids, and some meds used on people for ulcers to help coat the guts. she stayed there the rest of the day, and then I took her home to comtinue care throught then night. I took her back this morning and we felt she was doing well enought to stay with me. I am giving her 2-3 cc of pedialite every few hours and nutrical every few as well, also, I am giving her (with a suringe), a few ccs of a/d science diet recovery food mixed with water and nutical. she is not eating on her own and doesnt really want the food I am giving her. She is not vomiting ( she only did that for about 1-1 1/2 hrs the first night) anymore. She is still haveing diarrhea thought but it is not much and is slowing down. Only one poop today and it wasnt much and it was diarrhea.. It not bloody though.. We are not sure if she had a false positive for Parvo b/c of the vacc. or if she really has it. She seems to be doing better, she is sleeping alot. If it is not parvo... I hope it is not something we are missing. I have an appointment to take her back to the vet to look at her again and re-evaluate. Hope this helps some. She was not a huge eater before she go sick, although she was only with me a for 6 days days she may have gotten it the first day and ben slowly getting sick. I had her onlNewmans Own orgainc puppy canned, mixed with puppy kibble by Organix. Any comments on this would all be appreciated. If it is parvo she doesnt have it as bad as it could have been which they said could be because she had one vacc. Kellie |

| Kellie, Has your vet done a fecal test on her? She could have coccidia, and many times, it doesn't show up on the fecal test and they have to be retested several times for it to show up. Puppies can go downhill quick if they have coccidia. My yorkie had it when he was a pup and it was really scary...If you have any questions, please ask. Also, you can go click on the link at the top left that says "Forums" Then click on the one that says "Sick/Injured" Then click on "New Thread" and you can start a brand new thread that you can type this in...That way, maybe more people will see it and you'll get more advice.
