| Tia is making a lot of gagging noises... Tia is 4 1/2 months and about 3 1/2 pounds. Yesterday morning she did not eat her morning meal at all (which is not like her). When I got home from work that afternoon up until she fell asleep in my lap that night, she was making a lot of gagging and heaving nosies. I could really hear the gurgling inside of her. Plus she would sound like she was having trouble breathing sometimes. She did this a total of about 4 times last night. The thing is, each time after she would bounce right back and be all happy and ready to play. She ate her evening meal and poop looks normal. This morning at around 4 :30 am she woke us up crying and barking (not usual for her). I let her out to pee and she was happy, but then started with the gagging and hard time breathing, even more frequently...but again, each time she did she would bounce right back to her old self. Sounds kinda gross but I think one time she vomitted in her mouth and swallowed it again. My husband is keeping an eye on her at home today until I get home. Anyone have any ideas why she might be doing this? I feel that if I were to bring her to the vet they woudln't believe me because she probably won't do this (it's pretty sporatic) and she'll look perfectly healthy. If anyone has any insight into this, it would be great....if not, then I'll just keep a close eye on her and have her thigns ready to make a quick scoot out the door.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I would call the vet. Not sure what it is. Lex will sometimes get a bit of weezing going when he is going nuts but that is what they call reverse sneezing. I was scared out of my gord when he first did it but the vet told me it was ok and not the dreaded collapsing trachea. Anyhow....watch the cutie but I would definitely call the vet and ask over the phone more or less what he/she thinks it could be. These animals are such little humans and can get tummy upsets and colds as well. Sending puppy prayers your way.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wonder if she has something stuck in her esophagus? These puppies pick up and eat anything and everything. I'd bring her in.

| We were wondering if something was caught in her esauphagus too. Well, it's been a while that she hasn't wheezed or gagged. My husband and I were watching her closely. My husband think it may be her collar....I know, I know, no collars for Yorkies. I had bought her a safety cat collar recently, just for the purpose of having a visible tag on her (she has scooted out our door a couple of times), plus the little bell on it allowed us to hear where she was in the house (we're allowing her more space to raom around). Even at its smallest, the collar was quite loose (loose enough to put teh 2 fingers in) and the clasp releases easily enough (i tested a few of them at teh shop and chose the loosest one). I only walk her using her harness. Anyway, she seems to be ok now. Thanks for your help!

| We had to take one of our babies to the emergency vet one night because she was doing the same thing. Vet found that she had somehow got a large abount of hair from the side of her face into her mouth and down the back of her throat causing her to gag every minute or so. We couldnt see anything in her mouth or throat. It sounded like she had swallowed something and could not breathe. It still happens to both of them once in a while, usually after playing and chewing on their favorite little stuffed toys. They like to get then in the side of their mouth and gnaw on them. At least we know what to look for now. Anybody else ever had this??? |
