| Severe diarrhea.. what should i do? My girl is 7 months old and about 6.5lbs, so she isin't super tiny in weight just a little small in size. Anyway my concern is she was spayed 2 weeks ago. everything with the surgery was completly fine we went in on Sunday to get her stitches removed and that was done (usually Rylie is home alone during the day as we all work. But for the past 2 week everyone was home even extra people as my parents were babysitting my niece and nephew. And now starting yesturday everyone has gone back to work so rylie is back to her old routine of being home alone during the day) Anyway so on Sunday she got her stitches out and that went well. Then in the middle of the night around 2am i felt something wet on my bed i thought she had peed, it wasn't pee she had thrown up a little and was now asking to get off the bed, i let her down and she pooped it was pasty then again pasty poop at about 4am then she pooped again at about 7am and the poop wasn't as pasty it got better but this time she threw up yellow bile twice. (not very much) She was fine all day Monday slept throught the whole night and then on TUesday we went back to work and my mom was the first one home and said that she had pooped twice and that is seemed to be ok. Then last night she pooped at about 10pm and it was pasty again then pooped at about 11:30 and it was VERY watery, she was up again at 1am and again VERY watery up again at 4am and it was a mix of pasty and watery. She hasn't thrown up since that one time. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? She has been eating her food regularly she hasn't been given anything differntly. Yesturday she was given one treat (we give her treats when she asks to go to the bathroom as we are still in the training stage ) I haven't called the vet yet. Do you guys think i should call and see if he wants me to bring her in? Any help would be great as i'm VERY confused. Oh ya other then the poop she is not acting any differently AT ALL, still being crazy.

But she was spayed on July 24th, and has had the stitches removed on August 6th. That's why i'm not sure if it could be related to the spay because it's been 2 weeks already. SO confused.

| Give her boiled chicken and rice it you don't think she got into anything. She could just have an upset stomach! I go through this with Buddy periodically. We were just at the vet last Fri for the same thing. Nothing was wrong after some testing again! Just boiled chicken (white meat only) and rice. No treats or regular food until you see a solid stool then gradually start adding regular food. You could also give her 1/4 tablet of peptobismol before feeding to coat the stomach. |

| I agree with Archie give boiled chicken breast (substitute baby food jar chicken if you don't have time to cook) and cooked rice. The chicken is easy to digest and the rice will firm up the stools. I also agree 1/2 tsp. of pepto wouldn't hurt. Dehydration is the worst worry with diarrhea. If you "pinch" her skin on the shoulder blade it should go back in place quickly. The longer is takes to go back or if it stays "tented" means she is dehydrated, also a tacky mouth. I give Pedialyte at the first sign of diarrhea to restore the electrolyte balance. I buy the individual plain flavored bottles because once it is opened it has to be discarded in 48 hours. The more severe and frequent the diarrhea, the more aggressive I am in giving the Pedialyte. If it is very severe and they are showing any signs of dehydration I might give Pedialyte by syringe every hour around the clock. I would also be giving Nutrical. She could have picked up something at the vet's so I wouldn't let the diarrhea go too long and would take her to the vet if I see blood or if the above treatment isn't working. |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | I just delt with this issue about 5 or so days ago and I know what your going through. I had Lillie on the stage 1 chciken baby food, I read the back to make sure it had nothing in it that would harm her, and I bought some whole grain rice and gave her that for 2 days, I started out with a small tsp of each and gave it to her 2 x a day and push the water. thank god Lillie is better now! Best of luck to you, I sure hope your baby gets better real soon! |

| I think she's on the way to recovery Well as my boyfriend says i worry about her too much. But i just can't help it she's so small and it's a mama's job to worrry. So i took her to the vet last night. I brought in a stool sample because he wants to rule out any parasites. He said it could be that, or something she ate, or something she ate off the floor (I do call her my little hoover) Well at the vet he checked her out, did a rectal she hated it. And he gave her some pills to help settle her tummy and help with the diarrhea. Last night she did not poop once just this morning so that is a welcome change to the night before 4 poops within 6 hrs. This morning's poop was semi pasty so hopefully that means she's getting better. I won't know for sure for a few more days and hopefully nothing comes up in the stool sample. Thank- you everyone for the advice, i have been mixing her food with rice and she loves the rice, but she is a bit sneeky and picks out all the rice and leaves her dry food all over the floor.
