I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Question about my friend's Yorkie, this is pretty gross! My friend called today and said that she is having a problem with her Yorkie. Her Yorkie is 7 months old. Anyway, her Yorkie is pretty much infested with fleas...and she can't figure out why. She has tried everything, Frontline, etc. And she bathes her once a week. She lives out in the country, but doesn't let her Yorkie go outside at all (fleas being the very reason) as she is trained to go potty on a puppy pad. Anyway - here's the GROSS part. Last night when her and her husband were getting ready to go to bed, she noticed that there was an area on her sheets, which at first she thought might be "flea dust". However, when they looked closer, they noticed that it wasn't flea dust at all. They got a magnify glass to get an even closer look and they discovered that it was TEENY TINY little WORMS!!!! She said they had little legs and everything and were moving all around. I couldn't understand how "tiny" she was trying to tell me they were, so she explained to me that these things are so tiny that they look like DUST! She got a piece of tape and gathered some of them onto that and took it to the vet this morning so that he will be able to tell her what the heck it is. But I thought I would come here and ask if anyone might know what in the world this could be. We are totally baffled! And of course she is SUPER DUPER GROSSED OUT!!!!! I would totally lose it if I saw something like that IN MY BED! OMG...worms are NOT my thing!! I would have to go and buy all new bedding omg.. Anyway, if anyone has ANY suggestions as to what the heck this might be (she still hasn't heard back from the vet yet...) PLEASE let me know!! Thanks bunches. P.S.- Some of you may know which friend I am talking about...she posts on YT as "TonTon". She is the one that bought Kahlua (her Yorkie) from a Puppymill (she didn't even know it was one) and her puppy had Parvo. Anyway, this is the friend that I'm referring to!!

| If Kaluha is infested with fleas, then they are probably flea larvae. She needs to get the flea situation under control ASAP. Fleas can cause all kinds of problems, like heartworms! The fleas are really bad where I live, and my vet told me to give my 2 Frontline every 2 weeks instead of once a month. She said it would not hurt them to do this. Maybe your friend should seriously consider doing this. Hope Kaluha gets all better really sooN! |

| I think heartworms are caused by mosquitoes.... but i know fleas if they are ingested will cause tapeworms.

| Umm, maybe they could take her in for a wash at a groomer or something. My parents live overseas, and I remember that their groomer that works at their vet's offered a medicated bath that got rid of fleas and whatnot. Something like that could be worth looking into. It must be a very upsetting situation. I do wish good luck.

| she needs to treat the fleas in her house. she won't be able to get rid of them if she doesn't spray her house. you have to start at the base boards and work to the middle of the room. another tip to help control any fleas that might be brought in on your pet is to put a flea collar in your vacuum bag, that way when you vacuum them up they die before they can crawl back out. |

| She's going to need to treat her house too. Probably bug bomb and spray and then retreat according to directions on package, because the flea eggs will hatch and it will happen all over again. I live in Florida and know about the nasty little buggers unfortunately.......

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I know... I know, I have told her this many, many times. Take her to the vet, have her flea dipped, spray her house, and yard, etc. But she still says that she is going to go to PetSmart and buy flea shampoo. Only thing is, that is only a temporary fix. It isn't going to kill the fleas in her yard, carpets, etc. I hope she gets rid of these things, they certainly aren't going to go away on their own, they will only get WORSE Poor baby...

| Probably flea larvae. I had a flea infestation a long time ago and found some tiny worms under a dresser cloth where my cat had been sleeping. I took some to the vet and they were definitely flea larvae. I had to spray and bomb the heck out of my house to get rid of them. They were sand fleas. Hope your friend can get her little pup treated so she feels better. |

| Did you ever find out what they are? She might try putting some stuff down in her yard that takes care of fleas and some other pesty little bugs. I can't remember what it's called, but it can be found at most any garden center. |
