| Pancreatitis Hello, where do you live? If you're in Southern California, I have some resources for you. If not, I strongly encourage you to find either a credited- advanced degree Advanced Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist (they aren't all the same--check their reputation). They are becoming less difficult to find. If you don't have a specialist in your area, find a vet Very experienced it the treatment. If your vet has not prescribed CERENIA/Maropitant, ask for it. There's another med Angus took: a pill to be crushed, water added, and fed w/syringe. Like Doggie Milk of Magnesia. It coats the intestine walls. I'll see if I still have the name. Very important! I suggest looking into special low fat diets-extremely lowfat-less than 8%. Hard to find. You might want to look on website, "Just Food For Dogs". If you can't get food from Just Food..., there's a very low fat kibble, "Go" is the brand name. You can order either diet from the web. No cheating on the diet. No people food except baked sweet potato, or Apple, carrot, no fat, nonirritating. Has your dog begun to pass blood in his stool? Black stool can indicate blood from the stomach. Red blood/bloody stool is from the colon. Should you see either of these, go to the vet as soon as possible. Take some stool with you, or take very good pictures to show your vet. A low level of Pancreatitis can remain active (Chronic), It might not be noticed without lab work. Dog food > 10% fat might be a/one of your problems. This chronicity can cause ulcerated intestines and/or ulcerated colon causing blood in the stool (black stool if from the stomach; bloody discharge if from the colon). They can't absorb nutrients when this happens. Watch for mucus in the stool. This could be the beginning of trouble. Definitely check-out Just food for dogs website. They use human grade ingredients like you'd get at the super market. Their over the counter recipes are on line. I tried making it myself, but only when I bought theirs did Angus begin to improve. They make the food right in front--their kitchen is 1/2 of their store space. You can order it shipped to you. They have prescription diets/over the counter diets. Angus wouldn't eat the prescription, but he liked the Remedy formula, no prescription needed; Sweet Potato/white fish (5% fat). I Suggest you add pumpkin powder to your dog's diet. It aids digestion, has antioxidants, and firms the stool. Also, make sure he's drinking lots of water, feed w/syringe if need be; and feed 4+ little meals. Lots of rest. Low/no stress. I don't want to upset you, but pancreatitis in Yorkies is extremely dangerous. I suggest acting sooner rather than later. I just ended a 9-12 month battle w/it. We didn't win. It's heartbreaking. Dogs can develop an ulcerated stomach and colon. Then they can't absorb nutrients. My Angus had Cushing's Disease, of which pancreatitis is a common complication. Angus was 13, a tough little stink, so brave. It was devastating. Well, I apologize for my long windedness. I hope I haven't confused you. Please act now to try to beat it. Good luck. I will keep you and your little pooch in my thoughts, |

| I don't know what the vet resources are in Scotland, but I do suggest you speak with your vet about a referral to an internal med specialist. If an ultrasound has not been done, I would ask about getting it done. There could be a growth and that is the only way to know. I did have a pup with a growth on his pancreas. There was nothing we could do but watch it closely with repeat ultrasounds. Three bouts in 6 weeks is a lot ... I wonder if perhaps it is just chronic and is not clearing up. A specialist may have some other thoughts/ideas. As someone posted, pancreatitis can be deadly. I strongly suggest you get to a specialist sooner rather than later. You say your pup is on a low fat diet. Honestly, that is about all you can do and avoid giving any treats! I only use treats occasionally and usually just a small piece of sweet potato. Welcome to YT! Please keep us posted on your pup.

| I think my dog may have pancreatitis although his bloodwork came back negative. He doesn't have any masses or growth via X-ray but has been having two episodes of fever and whackey food/water intake. He's on a bunch of medicine to see if it's some sort of bacterial infection or virus but he seems uncomfortable. I've been sticking to boiled chicken and rice. Today I gave him organic baby food to coax him into drinking water which he loved! He won't sit still and keeps walking around - can't get comfortable. He sits then gets up. What recommendations are there for food intake with pancreatitis? |

Is it possible it is his back? Did the vet do a thorough overall physical exam? I have had pups mimic stomach issues and hunch over but it was their backs. He isn't vomiting or having diarrhea? I wouldn't concern myself about the water...you don't always see them drinking a lot and sometimes they get enough in their food.

| Just a quick update. Seems like he's doing slightly better. A little more energy and his personality is back. Still tenses up a little when I touch his belly toward his hind legs. He has a better appetite and is drinking a bit better. Haven't seen him do the prayer position the past 24 hours. Now the challenge is getting him to have a bowel movement. We're going on 3 days. Hopefully things are on the upswing!! Thank you all for the advice. This sit has kept me sane this week. |

| Sorry forgot to answer your questions. No vomiting or diarrhea. He did vomit foamy clear liquid on Saturday but that wAs a tiny amount. He vomited Monday after his antibiotic but vet suspects it was due to an empty stomach. He hasn't hurt himself to implicate his back but it's always a possibility. Vet did a very thorough exam and suspects his tummy. |

He was diagnosed with pancreatitis 2 weeks ago. He wasn’t too dehydrated or painful in the belly, but bloodwork and other tests finally confirmed string positive for it. Went home with Pepcid, Metronidazole and Cerenia, and Hills Diet low fat ID food (which was prescribed but I don’t like those ingredients at all). He was better within 24 hours and no other issues at all until yesterday. 2 hours after eating he was very nauseous and had some orange diarrhea with a tiny bit of bright red blood. Rushed him to the vet and they say “he just might not be over it yet”. Then why did we have 2 weeks fine and all of a sudden it’s back?? For no reason. I’m not trusting their opinion. Today he’s not nauseous or having diarrhea, but seems very uninterested in anything but resting. Worried I’m losing my baby because of vets that are questioning enough or pushing to help him. | |

I just went through it recently. It is always best to hospitalize for 2 or 3 days with IV fluids ... We had to do that twice with my Teddy last month. He is fine now. Pancreatitis CAN kill your pup. If your vet didn't suggest hospitalization and IV fluids, time for another vet.
