| sick stomach Willie vomited yellow liquid through the night. He also pooped immediately after. It wasn't runny...normal consistency. I took him to the kitchen and tried to get him to eat a little food because he's pretty small (under 4 pounds). We went back to bed and he slept through the night. Early this morning, he threw up a white foam. He hasn't eaten any kibble today. I tried to entice him with wet food. He wouldn't have it. I gave him a little bit of scrambled egg and he ate them. I also gave him some honey. Right now, he's laying down beside me resting. He has only thrown up the two times, but he is definitely not himself. His gums are pink. He has drank a little water. I am taking him to the vet in the morning. Any ideas for what to do in the mean time? He has been on RC for yorkies, but I have been mixing in blue buffalo the last few days. Could this have caused his upset stomach?

| Sorry the little guy isn't feeling well. I have heard that blue buffalo can cause some issues. Mine didn't do well on it and so I feel that it could definitely be to blame for the issues your pup is experiencing. Sounds like an upset tummy... At least he's drinking and hopefully he will be back to himself soon. I would feed some white rice and boiled chicken breast with just a splash of low sodium chicken broth to entice. |

| I definitely think the food change might be causing this. It's good you got him to eat, since it sounds like he might be having problems with acid reflux. Normally I rest the belly and don't give food if there is vomiting, but when there's bile, I give 1/4 tablet of Pepcid AC and, after an hour, I try food. When you take him to the vet I'd ask him if that's okay if there is a next time. My last Yorkie, Ashley, was four pounds, and that was what my vet advised me to do with her. I hope Willie gets better soon. |

| It very well may be the Blue Buffalo...I have heard of quite a few yorkies having issues with it. I would not be too worried about him not eating. Probably best for him not to while his tummy is upset. As for the gums, the most important thing to check is to see if they are wet...just lift his upper lip and touch them .. if they are sticky to the touch, chances are he is dehydrated....if wet and slick he is not. That is one way to check for dehydration...you can also pull up the skin on his back between the shoulder blades...if it does not go right back into place he may be dehydrated. Here is a good link about checking for dehydration: http://www.wikihow.com/Determine-if-a-Dog-Is-Dehydrated Hopefully he will be fine later today or tomorrow. If the vomiting continues, you really need to think about getting him to an emergency clinic.

| Thanks for all of the information. I have called my vet and am waiting for him to respond. Just threw out the blue buffalo. Got him to take the pepcid. He threw up 2 more times today. He had a loose stool. I feel so helpless. He is active. He's following me all over the place. Maybe that's a good sign.

| Your poor baby, it is worrying to have a sick little one. If he is just having an off day and with a plainer diet like chicken and rice, then he should get better soon. But if he is still sick then he needs to see a vet and get an examination and tests, in case he has some disease or infection. A check for pancreatitis might be a good idea also. Hope he gets well soon. |

| Just got back from the vet. She's not sure what caused the problem. She gave him fluids under his skin and said that this will keep him hydrated through tomorrow. She suspects he has eaten something that is disagreeable. She said to not even try to get him to eat or drink other than a few drops of honey until his stomach has healed. Maybe start him on pedialyte tomorrow. She also gave him a shot to try to control the vomiting. He hasn't been sick in over an hour. Praying he's through the worst of it. She said there was no blood in his stool. No fever. She felt that he was pretty active considering his state of dehydration. She said it was very good that he was seen tonight because sometimes in situations like this it can get bad very quickly. She gave him antibiotics and meds for nausea. Thanks so much for all of the advice. I am so glad I took him tonight.

The vet we saw is half an hour away and she will be who I see from now on. I need someone I can count on in an emergency. She was a little angry at first to have to come in on a Sunday, but once she saw him she said it was good that I insisted on bringing him in. Like you, she said he could have been in very bad shape pretty quickly.

I am glad you have someone now who will respond in an emergency! SO glad you asked...and listened! He could have been much worse by morning...or, even worse, you could have lost him.

| If he was eating a particular dog food,..... RC is what I have used for 35+ years with no problem and great results....if he is eating, dont monkey with his diet! Put him back on what he has done just fine on, and tolerated well, and was EATING....if it aint broke, dont FIX it!!! |

| I never give HONEY....give Karo or NutriCal.....if you do give honey, make sure it is not processed....I cant remember right now but honey is NOT good for them....some younger brain that is also aware of this fact I hope will come here and refresh my memory!!! I just remember being told to never give honey, give karo or NutriCal....or what I give mine, NutraDrops by Dr.Miller....that formula is better than all that other sticky, nasty stuff, and dogs love it!. Did I miss what the vet said was the issue with your baby? Praying he is doing much better now.... Never mind....i see it!!!! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 11-08-2015 at 03:56 PM. |

She had said to give honey, but I will definitely heed your advice. The honey I have is homegrown. My son's friend's mom keeps us in supply. I know. I should not have switched the food. Feeling like an idiot. I have to order their food. I noticed that the local feed store was selling blue and I assumed it was a good brand. So, I was going to slowly switch out of convenience. Lesson learned at poor Willie's expense. On a happy note, he hasn't been sick in 2 hours now. He is resting beside me.
