| What can this be? Hi all! Anyone have an idea what this could be? It was a red bump a couple of days ago. I thought it was an ant bite. Now tonight it looks like this. Really worried about it, and too late for vet tonight. Thanks, Cathy

| You need a better picture. What you see is not coming thru to the photograph |

| I would definitely get in to see your vet tomorrow. Looks like a possible spider bite, but also could be something burrowing. I think definitely needs prescription meds. Best wishes for your baby.

| Thank you for your replies! Will definitely be taking her to the vet tomorrow! I've never heard of a bot fly until now. I had to google it. I certainly hope that's not what it is. Can't imagine where she would have gotten it from. I thought it might be a spider bite. It's on her chest so she can't lick or scratch it. She doesn't act like she feels bad, but does not want me to touch it. I'll find out what it is for sure tomorrow. Thanks, Cathy

| Wow, it does look horrible. Poor baby. Is there a tick or bug in the black area? Would it help to put some antiseptic or antibiotic on the lesion to prevent infection? You said she can't get at it to lick, so I don't think it would do any harm. Hope she is ok and that the vet can diagnose her and make her better tomorrow. Please let us know how she is. |

| It looks painful, but before you can see the vet tomorrow, it does not hurt to get it cleaned with peroxide and perhaps try a topical ointment. As others said, please come back and update as it will be also helpful for others to find out what to do or what caused it. Best of luck.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would get it checked - it could be a spider bite.

| Thank you all for your interest and help. The vet wasn't sure what type of bite it is---definitely not a bot fly though! We've gotten antibiotics, steroids and a cream. We will be watching it closely for any changes. Thank you once again for your help! Cathy

| Bite? Thanks for letting us know what the vet said. Pity he did not have an answer for what it was, so you and us would know if we saw this again. Sounds like you now have everything to heal your baby now and I hope it goes away soon. |

| Thank you for updating! Glad it is not a bot fly, and glad the doctor gave you medications for your baby. My Teddy was given a similar combo for an unidentified bite that I believe was a spider. He did not have an open sore, but a huge lump that took awhile to go away.
