Vomiting after Meloxicam :( Hi All My baby Mia was spayed yesterday. She also had 16 deciduous teeth removed. They have her pain mess before I picked her up and have me 2 doses (0.07ml) to take home. One for today and one for tomorrow. They instructed me to give the dose at 5pm. 24 hours after the initial dose she had post surgery. Anyway, a short time after her dose tonight she started vomiting. Doesn't anyone know anything about or have any experience with this medicine? I googled it and found some pretty heart breaking and terrifying stories. Think I will be skipping tomorrow's dose and just comfort her with cuddles.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Please do NOT skip or skimp on pain meds!!!! She's had major abdominal surgery and teeth surgery...would you want to go through that w/out pain meds? I sure wouldn't, not in any way. I'd be calling the vet asap and either getting an anti-nausea med or a new pain med. I gave pain meds for more days than just 2 when my girl was spayed. I would never skimp or cut corners on medicating for pain.

Update Hi All Thank you for your replies. I stopped the pain meds (with her vets approval) and all was good. You would never know she even had surgery. She is back to her self and one happy baby. I also wanted to apologize for all the typos in my first message. I was tired and typing it on my phone. Didn't even realize that meds auto corrected to mess and gave to have. Have a great night!

Hi Kloster, You must stop, the Metacam, as you do not want her to vomit after she has been spayed, she will need something for, pain so go and get the vet to give her an pain injection. How much does she weigh? To stop, the vomiting, I suggest that you go out and buy the over the counter Zantac and dose her according to what the Google search tells you. Metacam can cause the stomach to bleed, the anesthetic and metacam will make her vomit. Google Search how much do I dose a female, just newly spade Yorkshire terrier at x pounds at X age.The Zantac is 75 mg that you buy over the counter. Buy a pill cutter. They are about 2 dollars. You can try gravel but Zantac will sooth her tummy, stop the bleeding. Call the vet, tell her what you did, and ask her for another pain med. I hate metacam in small breed dogs. Good luck, tell me how everything goes !! Susan Marie

Thank you!!! She is much better now. I stopped the medication all together after the first sign of a problem and she was fine.
