| HI! Everyone Dew Claw Help I think I accedently cut my Yorkie's dew claw. I did not know that she even has one. Its not bleeding alot, but shes really hyper running around around and ahe is limping. Do you think I need to take her to the Vet? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You probably do not need to take her to the vet, but for your doggie ER kit, make sure you get styptic powder or a styptic pen from Petsmart or somewhere to stop bleeding if it ever happens again.

| Those dang dew claws can certainly cause some problems. My Vivi got hers caught on a basket about a month ago and I doctored her up and watched in case she needed to go the vet. One day, it was just gone. Poor girl.

| Depends on what type of dew claw and if it is the nail or the skin. I cut one once because it was one that was only attached to the skin. I was horrified...the vet ended up removing the entire thing since it was almost off anyway. Prior to that, I had no idea that not all dogs' dew claws are deeply embedded.
