| Lorelei is limping but vet said to just wait?! My little Lorelei, who is 3 years old and about 3 - 3.5lbs, attempted to jump up on the couch this evening and didn't quite make it. (Why she didn't use her puppy stairs is beyond me!? lol Stubborn little babies think they can do anything they want I guess.) So she fell like maybe 6 inches or so to the ground. She didn't yelp or seem to be in any pain but I noticed that when she was walking on my hardwood floor she was limping a little bit on one of her hind legs, but when she walks in the rooms with carpet or on the couch she puts full weight on it. I checked all her joints and she has full range of motion in all of them, no cracked toenails, nothing between her toes or pads and no scratches or bruises on her pads at all. In fact she doesn't act like she is in pain at all except when she walks on hard surfaces. I did notice a slight bruise on one of her toes. Of course being an over protective furbaby Momma I called my vet ASAP. He said that since she is putting some weight on it that it most likely isn't broken and to just keep her quiet and off her foot as much as possible and if it isn't better by Monday to bring her in. But I am worried sick, should I take her to an ER Vet? Can I do anything to make her feel better in the mean time? Would an ice pack help, or maybe wrapping it lightly?

| Please keep her crated & take her to the vet ASAP. She may have a brake or may have torn something. It could be her knee or hip is out but at any rate she needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. Prayers all turns out OK for your baby. Remember dogs natural instinct is to hide pain. Last edited by lillymae; 04-11-2015 at 12:37 AM. |

| If this were my dog, I would be at the ER but she deff needs to be kept crated at the least till you can get her to the vet. You can use your judgment on how she is in the A.M. if she seems fine then keep an eye & don't let her jump on & off things for the rest of the weekend & see how she does but if she's still limping in the A.M. I would not wait till monday, better safe then sorry. They can often have a brake but limp very little. |

| Okay! She is asleep right now, so in the morning if she is still limping I am going to take her to an ER Vet! I have a feeling I am not going to be able to sleep tonight

FYI, steps are ok but ramps are better especially for the tiny dogs as there is quite a jolt to their whole body going down those steps. You will know if she's having pain in the night as she will keep moving around readjusting herself trying to get comfy. | |

| We tried the ramps first but for some reason she is afraid of them. She just sits down at the bottom of them and looks up at me like "Really Mom?" like I am asking her to climb Mt. Everest or something lol. Normally I pick her up every time I am going to a different room because she is a momma's girl and doesn't like to be any where if I am not there too. Of course this time she came running into my living room after my son let her outside to potty to get back into my lap and attempted the jump before either my son or I could catch her. I have no idea what possessed her to try and jump up on the couch! She has never even attempted to do that before. Thank you for the advice by the way!

| Well I couldn't sleep (as predicted) so I went ahead and took her over the ER Vet and I got good news! Her foot isn't broken she just has stubbed her poor little toe Which was the bruise that I saw. *whew* I feel so much better!! These furbabies of mine sure do know how to stress this Momma out lol

| I would work on her with the ramp...mine wont use stairs as they feel insecure trying to come DOWN the stairs....my ramps are "scalloped" on the ramp area, which gives them a foot hold on the ridges as they race up and down....you have to put them at the bottom and walk them up the ramp maybe a dozen times or more, as well as down the ramp...it takes a little while for them to get used to it, but it beats a 3# baby flying off a bed, chair or couch.....as well as hitting the edge and falling back trying to jump UP onto furniture! I am happy your baby has nothing but stubbed toes! |

| Aww, what a good Mama you are. So glad it turned out to be just the toe & not anything more serious. Yes these babies will worry us to the grave. You can soak that toe/foot in epsom salt to help with any swelling and/or pain. If you put a trail of treats all the way up the ramp that will often coax them up it as well. Once they start to go up it then let them know they will get a treat from you at the top then you can do away with the treat trail. ; ) |
