| ![]() Hello all, I am new to yorkie talk. I actually have a Yorkie/Bichon so im not sure if I even belong here but I do need help. My little pup is just over 11 weeks old, he was the last pup of the litter when I got him. He was at the vet last week due to vomiting and diarrhea which I received anti-biotics for that and he has improved dramatically! playful and loving just a wild one. We found out his breeder gave him his dewormer at 3 or 4 weeks, so 2 weeks two early.... Anyways I have noticed a serious problem with his hind legs. At times they wont function or he will collapse on them. When this happens he doesn't whine at all than 2 min later he is fine and running at high speed. It happens about once every other day. I am not sure what this could be but its been this way since we got him at 8 weeks. When he eats out of his bowl sometimes he will kick both of his back legs up and theyl be in the air! I am lost and concerned he will be seen next week at the vet. Any input?? Thank u so much! |

| ![]() Hi welcome to YT. I can't help but it sounds like neurological issues to me. Hopefully someone with more experience will come along. Praying for your pup.

| ![]() You and your baby are in the right place. Welcome. I'm sorry to hear he is having problems. Likely not a fracture since he moves easily except when he has these episodes. I would see a specialist as soon as possible. Often the earlier something is treated, the better the outcome. I hope the breeder gave you a health guarantee to cover cost of care in a situation like this. Please keep us updated. Sending best wishes for your little boy.

| ![]() I'm so sorry about your pup and that no one has been able to help you. I don't have any experience with this, but I agree it could be neurological. Liver shunts cause neurological issues, too, but I haven't heart of ones like this. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. You most definitely belong in this community, and we will help in any way that we can. Welcome to YT. |

| ![]() Thanks for the replies guys. My fiance surprised me with Chico so he apparently didn't come from a reputable breeder, found out possibly an overall ran puppy million: ( he went to the vet and even he was speechless and didn't have an answer. He gave him steroid s and his legs are better but his head. Still swaying, hes eating and popping good but at times its hard. I guess it will have to be a waiting game.: ( |

| ![]() You need to get your baby to a specialist for diagnosis....there is a problem and you can not just wait for it to run its course.....is there a vet school any where you? There you will find specialists for any system, and they have all the cutting edge equipment needed to diagnose your pup. You need to contact the breeder and let the breeder know exactly what is going on and ask what help she is going to provide. I am not sure of the Lemon Laws in your State, but you need to make her aware there is a problem. That will be for your future use, in case you need to resolve this in small claims court.....she wont be able to say she was never contacted. I wish you the best with this pup, but you need to get to a specialist/vet school for a definitive diagnoses and treatment plan. |

| ![]() Last nite we fed little Chico some purina puppy ice crea, seemed like the only thing he wanted to eat... anyways shortly after that he started running playing no swaying and has improved greatly. Hes even better than his first day home. I did a little research and figured out small yorkie are very prone to low blood sugar and they will show symptoms that they are drunk and wobbly.. I am so happy that this is what it was. His poop has been a little loose but I'm assuming from sugar intake. Hes walking and running normal now and being himself. Hopefully nothing else arrises. Thank u all! |

| ![]() Yes, Yorkies are prone to hypoglycemia. The way you described what your baby is doing...down one minute and fine/running full force the next doesn't sound like hypoglycemia to me. Keep Nutrical on hand just in case, though. If you notice hypoglycemia symptoms again, just give him some Nutrical. I'm glad that he seems to be doing ok now, but keep us posted, please. I'm not convinced this is only low blood sugar.

| ![]() Have you discussed hypoglycemia with your vet? Small dogs are prone to this and often times a bit of NUTRA CAL which comes in a tube, will help. You haven't mentioned if you have tried this yet. Its called hypoglycemia. There are many threads here. I don't know if that's the problem but I would try it out just in case. Also like Yorkiemom1 said DO NOT LET THIS WAIT, if this pup doesn't improve with Nutracal get to a specialist...immediately

| ![]() You've gotten a lot of good advise. The hind legs up in the air thing when they eat...well, that can be a sign of luxating patellas. Momo used to do that when he was a puppy & my vet said his knees will get stronger as he grows. He's 5 now & doesn't have LP anymore.

| ![]() Thanks so much you guys, he hasn't had an episode since my initial post. I'm getting his meals in and he's been waking up hungry a lot too. I am afraid to overfeed the fella though ![]() |

| ![]() Just thought I'd give a brief update on Chico. Shortly after my last post a year ago we have found out that he is digestive system cannot handle large amounts of protein. He has been a new dog since the prescription diet started. I've never had such a energetic, happy crazy dog. He so far has had no health issues for the past year and goes potty outside with the big dogs. He is very loud though. 😀 |
