| throwing up Chloe has been throwing up clear fluid this morning. (about 4 times) I went to the store and came back. She had thrown up a bit of blood. She is drinking water. She just acts like she doesn't feel well. I can't get her to eat anything. She is chasing our cat as usual and playful. Any suggestions?

YT 2000 Club Member | Those are not good signs! Get her to the vet, TODAY! Vomiting alone is one thing and worrisome, but blood in the vomit is nothing to mess with.

| throwing up Yes, PLEASE take your pup to the vet ASAP! I had the same thing occur with our Graysee, since this past Saturday. I took her to the vet today, and now she is spending the night in the hospital, on intravenous fluids, as a precaution against a possible case of HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis), which, if left untreated, can often be fatal. Fortunately, she hadn't begun the bloody diarrhea yet, and it's possible that it is only an intestinal tract infection, but the vet was taking no chances. Graysee started vomiting up her food on Saturday, and has been doing so ever since. I took her because I was worried that she could become dehydrated, and that is also an effect of this disorder. I had never heard of HGE, but I find, after studying up, that it is fairly common in young, adult small-breed dogs, specifically Yorkies, among others. SO, now I'm going thru a bad case of Yorkie withdrawal symptoms, as she is ALWAYS by my side! I don't even know if I'll get to sleep tonight without her being here. Thankfully, if this IS HGE, it has been discovered very early, and her time in the hospital will be short; a day or two. Please take your pup to the vet!!!! |

| Why would there be blood in vomit for a viral infection? I don't doubt what you say but I would get a second opinion if she isn't better very, very soon, that blood in her vomit worries me increasingly. Bella had a viral infection just this past weekend and there was never any blood involved...it was pretty bad, but just foamy vomit, lethargy, whimpering and a lot of runny poo. Sprout had a viral infection when he was little (around 2 yrs I think) and he was very, very sick...never any blood. If she isn't better within the next 24 hours, or if she appears to be getting worse in any way, shape or form - please take her to another vet, even if it's the ER. Praying for little Chloe. |
