| Shots/Comfortis/Ivermectin (HeartGuard) Ok so Ii was reading a LOT of posts on 2 different threads. Lattuce was rescued from a puppuy mill and was treated as if she had never gotten any shots ... ever SO we did everything BUT NEVER MORE THAN ONE SHOT on any given visit!!!! It took over 3 months to spread it apart in a way where I was comfortable. Theo only time she had an issue was after the nasal Bordatella - she had a cold for about 10 days afterwards nd dumb dumb me doesed her with Comfortis on the SAME DAY. Tht was April 30. Lettuce got the shakes and had a soft stool but it could also have been because she got into the bird food and stolen 2 peanuts ... I just gave her another Dose of COmfortis and felt REALLY weird doing it as I would like to see if without the other things going on she has an adverse reaction. If she DOES then no more Comfortis and back to a topical. Ivermectin from everything I have read and been told should (if you have to use HeartGuarda 1x amonth dosing) be given with a 2 week separation from the Comortis to AVOID poisoning your baby. Like chemotherapy - enough to kill the cancer (or fleas) and not enough to kill you (or your dog). SO hard to tell how one's dog will respond to ANY of these things. Like humans they all have a body and eat drink and function but we/they all metabolize food/meds/air/pollen or whatever DIFFERENTLY. ALSO drugs which are new, even if they have been tested are exactly that NEW. No one knows until SEVERAL years after things have been on the market what the long term adverse effects are. Like being guinea pigs ... the amount of side effects they list on commercials for depression medicine: COuld result in .... and maybe even death - HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ... personally I'd rather be alive and have a chemical imbalance/sleep issue. Just my thoughts ... I will post later about Lettuce and how she does on this round of Comfortis 5 - 10 pound /small dog dose. |

| I hope Lettuce will do okay with her Comfortis. I stick to the topical stuff just because I trust it more with Mandie's size.

| I have the same feelings about those sleep/ depression medicines... I'd rather live through whatever, than take the medicine and possibly end up in worse shape- or dead! You're comment made me laugh! I hope Lettuce does well with this round. Keep us updated!

| Hi guys. Thanks for the responses!! OK 1st: I SHOULD have posted this in a different area because it is NOT an emergency - sorry everyone. Lettuce did FINE this time. No shakes, no loose tummy. YAY! I think that the nasal bordatella vaccine is what messed her up and I broke my own rule by giving her the Comfortis too soon after that. BAD MOMMA! She came home sneezing and the cough lasted for 7 days.after that. She was ok after the booster injection a month later, though. |
