Chanel has these sores on the top of her head. they don't seem to bother her, but they look like they hurt. any ideas on what they could be? i thought maybe they could be from flea bites or her scratching? she does have fleas, however i am in the process of gettinig flea medicine for her(she only weighs 2 lbs) |

| thank you yes, she is a doll. i know fleas are awful to have, especially with her being so tiny (2 lbs) but i read the box of advantage for the smallest dog(4-10lbs) and it said it could be lethal to any dogs weighing 4 lbs or less. so i am waiting for the vet to get back with me on what to do? i figured the sores were from the fleas, they just look so painful is triple antibiotic okay to use on her? some are open and i don't want them to get infected. |

| i would check with your vet about the triple antibiotic ointment maybe you could try just a tiny bit but honestly i dont know if it is safe for her. every baby is different and reacts differently. the vet may tell you to reduce put 1/4 of the topical tube on her instead of the whole tube....if your vet says thats ok. poor thing. i hope she clears up real soon.

| You can use organic coconut oil on the flea bites until you talk to your vet. It is safe if she licks it. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you, they carry Nutiva organic coconut oil. Poor girl. Hope she can get some relief soon.

| I don't mean to hijack this thread, but is that the same oil that some use for dry skin on their dogs?

| Yes, you can use it for dry skin. Cocotherapy is another excellent brand.

| Without seeing these sores, it is hard to say what it is....but I think it is time to have a vet check her out. Sores on her head does not sound like it is from fleas, though...typically you see areas where they can easily scratch and/or bite. If she has irritation any where else.......often when they have fleas and start scratching they get infections...the most common one being staph and it spreads all over them. It is not the horrible staph you hear about, BUT it does need oral medication (antibiotics) to get rid of.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm with Linda/Lj - you really should go to the vet. For example, just fyi, when dogs get ringworm - it's notorious for showing up on the top of their heads -- and it doesn't always look like a classic ring like in humans. It can look like a red spot, a blotchy spot, a hairloss spot, a sore, an irritation. Ringworm is VERY contagious to humans and other dogs btw. Puppies are esp vulnerable to getting it. It could be so many things, when it comes to skin - so I'd go in ASAP and get a skin scraping of the area. Please keep us posted!

| I'm glad the sore have healed. Great advice above -- I didn't think of ringworm. Best to have it checked.
