| Does this warrant a trip to the vet?! Uni stepped on something. We were in the front yard. She starting making tiny little hurting sounds and lifted her front paw. I turned her around and saw a tiny little bulb thing and pulled it out and there was a little spike at the end. I touched the spike with my fingers but it didnt seem sharp. Asked MIL if it was a bee's butt she said no. She won't stop licking it. Won't really let me touch it too much. It's not getting swollen but won't stop licking. She's not really NOT walking on it. Lifting her paw, when she isn't walking but when walking looks normal. Bf said no vet. What do you guys think?! I can't see anything else (she has thin hair remember) not swollen but it's OBVIOUSLY bothering her. Is she playing me for a fool? There's no bleeding that I can tell.

| I would take her just to be on the safe side. I hope her little paw feels better.

| You should make sure that nothing else is in her foot, either with a magnifying glass or your vet. If something is still in her foot, it could result in infection in a day or two and end up twice as painful and ten times as expensive...

| Paw Poor little Uni. Could it be a scorpion sting? I had one in the yard in SoCal , trapped it and its sting looked like you said. Hope it was not that and that Uni is over it now, whatever it was. The other day my dog stepped on a bee but quickly bit it off and spat it out ... Thank goodness!..... He licked his paw and did not walk on it for a bit and I sprayed some lidocaine spray, then he was ok. |

| I didn't know we had scorpions in CA!?! I've never seen one. She was on the sidewalk, not on the grass when it happened. I looked around for any creepy crawlies and didn't see anything. She's not licking anymore, but she's still lifting it when she's not walking. Still no swelling. I'm afraid what if it's a thorn from a plant and has some kind of poison on it. There are no plants in the front with spikes or thorns though! Aren't scorpions like WAY poisonous? Wouldn't she be swelling up if it was a scorpion? The ball part was about the size of a ball point pen tip and the spike was like an eyelash. One of my eyelashes so really really short and thin.

| My Mom was wounded by a thorn while gardening last year and ended up with a bad fungal infection!

| Paws Re scorpions, nor did I until I saw one on a concrete path leading up to the house! Big panic I can assure you! The bug man had just sprayed outside a few days before and I wondered if it was doped out and came out in the open from its hiding place. They are poisonous, but this one still had the venom in the bulb. The bulb was bigger than you say and the sting larger than an eyelash ( like a big rosé thorn) so I don't think it was a scorpion. If she is eating and not licking and no swelling she is probably ok, I think they can lick/bite out small things to cure themselves. Does she accept it if you put pressure on her paw? If so the object has probably gone and the paw is just a bit sore. Could you put some antiseptic on the paw to be sure? Hope your little paw is better soon. |

| She lets me look but doesn't like it. I can put my finger between her pads but doesn't like it if I try to spread the pads open. She just ate a full lunch. Stopped licking but still lifts her paw a bit. But if she walks walks normal. Bf said no vet bc I would rack up a bill of $200. Antiseptic, like rubbing alcohol or what? I'm at the shop, but I can go to the pharmacy it's down the street.

| Lidocaine Wow, that is new to me. I used a spray from Bio- Groom, vet strength Anti Itch spray from Pets Mart I believe, and it had 2.4 percent Lidocaine. I have used it several times for minor skin things very effectively with no problems. Perhaps it depends on the dose? I will ask my vet next time I see him. Thanks for the info. |

| I'm such a baby when it comes to these things and always error on the side of going to the vet. I want a professional to look at whatever it is.

| Paws I just googled Bio- Groom anti itch spray for dogs and got the one I have. I really think it is fine as it is topical and and not ingested. I read that large plasma levels can cause problems and that it is dose related. However I am not a vet and do not want to say anything that could harm a pet. I used the spray that I bought at a pet store and assumed it was ok. I use a Band Aid antiseptic liquid, but small amount of alcohol would do too. Again, a disclaimer, I am not a vet!! If he is sensitive between the pads perhaps he still has something there and should be seen? You know your dog best and can tell if he is in pain. Good Luck! It is always something with our babies!
