| Just got back from Virginia Tech with Emma, not to bad results i suppose.. Well, the ultrasound they did not find a large vessel shunt, they said there is possibly smaller ones though they can not tell from ultrasound. They took blood again and typed up a thing for me.. "She does have a medially luxating patella on her left pelvic limb, at this time that is minor. Liver is normal size making an abnormal shunting vessel unlikely. This makes microvascular dysplasia, MVD, the most likely diagnosis for her. We are repeating the bile acids test and if they are not truly elevated, we need to take a closer look at her neurologic function. Most important factor is avoiding oral protein. Emma should be maintained on a liver diet, possibly for the rest of her life. Good snacks are baby carrots or rice cakes. We are sending home some samples of Hill's L/D, dry food only feed about 1/2 cup a day, canned Hills L/D, about 1/3 can a day, if mixed subtract a little of each to even out. If the food alone fails to control Emma's signs, we can add in medication as needed." They shaved her belly for the ultrasound lol but they said she did great, its supposed to snow here tomorrow so hopefully can get back there if another bloodwork is needed. She will be disappointed not getting bacon flavor treats now I am sure |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | The apple is fine. Mine like green beans and frozen peas also. Va tech is a great school and I know others who've taken dogs there. You and I are neighbors of sorts. I'm in Va Beach. Wishing Emma all the best.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am glad the news was better than expected. My Cali was diagnosed with mild MVD through a liver biopsy at 8 months and she has done very well on a low protein diet. She is now almost 8 years old. The vet does yearly blood work and treats her as liver compromised when putting her on medicines or under anesthesia. I will keep her in my prayers.

| Congratulations! It is not perfect, but it is going to be managable! This is great news! Emma, my doc took away MY bacon too, so dont feel picked on!!! Your momma can kind of finely dice apple and carrot and kind of warm them together, in a little saucepan........not saute' but just stir them around over low heat to warm them up and soften them up a little..... to combine the flavors....carrots are pretty good like that! |

| So glad you got her in there and got their exam, testing, opinion, advice and treatment plan for her. It sounds as if you have some good options for her, though I know very little about MVD except what I've learned on YT but I have sure read more than a few threads about dogs doing very well with it on the right diets. Hopefully those coming test results will not show anything unexpected or too bad. I hope Emma is feeling better very soon.

| thanks everyone for the wishes, Emma thanks you to. Even though shes caught up with laser pointer chasing I will try the warming carrots and apples, the carrots were probably to hard for her she got 7 teeth pulled when she was spayed they were causing problems, so warming will probably be great |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Taycie was also Diagnosed with MVD through Biospy. She is managed with Medications and I homecook for her. She has a medical diet formulated by a board certified Vet nutritionist. L/d did't work well for us. I understand how hard it is but it is manageable and a low protein diet is KEY in managing this disease.

| the dry food they gave me if somewhat big for her I thought, i just ran a little water over it to soften she keeps bringing pieces into living room and dropping them. They said they would need to give her something to relax her some but not put her to sleep more than likely because of her hyperness, she hasnt been herself since we got home, she ate some of the food both dry and wet, guessing sore from bloodwork and no nap today, looks and acts somewhat sad |
