| New yorkie has cough- sent back to breeder so they could care for him for me? Hey Guys, I'm new to the site and am looking for some advice. I recently got a 9 week old yorkie puppy that is the sweetest thing I have ever seen. He was flown to me and have a full day of travel to get to me.. Poor thing. Anyways when I got him he seemed fine at first. Within a few hours though he was coughing. The coughing got worse within a few days so I brought him to the emergency vet. I left the vet with antibiotics but was left with more questions then when I started. The vet thought it could be tracheal collapse based on the X-ray she took but she phoned me and told me she was wrong and there was no tracheal collapse. I told her Grim was now throwing up (from the meds I think). Long story short the vet made more suggestions and suggested more testing. This all happened within 4 days of me owning him. Now to get to the point.. I stayed in contact with my breeders frequently. They showed alot of concern for mine and Grim's well being. They insisted I send him back so that they could nurse him back to health for me. I sent him back and he has been sick for a month now. I'm just wondering if anyone went through a similar experience with their breeder and what the outcome was. Thank you kindly for any comments as I have been pretty worried about the whole situation. |

| I'm so very sorry to hear what your precious Grim is going thru. I really don't have any advice but did want to say hello and that I will keep Grim in my prayers. What are the breeders saying now? I mean, how is his progress? Is he getting any better at all? Do they know what the problem is?

| Thanks for the kind words guys! I've been trying to post a pic of Grim but I don't know how to upload from my phone. The breeders insist it's kennel cough and he's had it for about a month now. They say he is getting better but still coughing at nights. I'm worried that because he was sick so bad so early that he will be sick again. Anyone have experience with a dog that had kc early on and was never sick again? |

| Thanks again for your concern guys. I love this site, it really helps yorkie owners share advice and encouragement! Yorkiemom- that's interesting you said that because I also felt that 9 weeks was too early for such a small dog. I would've been more comfortable with 12 weeks at least. In Canada dogs are allowed to go home at 7-8 weeks I think but I wouldve preferred to wait until 12 myself. Unfortunately I was not given this option.. My breeders seem pretty legit. They have been breeding for 30 years and they are registered with the ckc. They also offered me a refund or a new dog but I really did like Grim, he was perfect besides his sickness. One concern I do have is that the breeders seemed to downplay his illness when they got him back. They said "oh yes he has a small cough and will be better in no time", but when I had him it was much wOrse then a small cough. I hope they don't send me back a sick dog who will be prone to this stuff. On a good note though, at least Grim is getting a full 16 weeks at home with his mom and the other dogs she has. Hopefully he will learn some good doggy manners from them and become stronger and healthier. |

There is more than one way to skin a cat!!! As breeders, they may have seen much sicker dogs....so what is a little cough to them, was a major deal to you! I remember going with my cousin to visit her mom in ICU.....we walked in and when I saw my aunt (I am an ICU nurse!), she looked great to me!!! I was thrilled with how good she looked!!!....my cousin FAINTED!!!! So maybe your baby is not as bad as you thought, and this is super! AND, like you say, he will be with them until he is 16 weeks old and through this! Mission accomplished!!! I cant wait for you to get your baby back! | |

So great that the breeders are nursing little Grim back to health, though.

| Awee thanks everyone! I am so excited to get him back now! I will keep everyone updated on how he is doing! I feel a better now reading all of your responses because no one seems to think that him having kc or the breeders taking him back is abnormal! Here are some pics of my sweetie! |

| Golly, he is darling and gorgeous You might want to request for a copy of the vet report that tells what he was treated for and with to have for his records. On second thought I would want to talk with the vet also.

| I'm glad to hear that your breeder took him back, but it was pretty irresponsible to let him go at 9 weeks in the first place Hopefully you get him back healthy and happy, but this is just another reason breeders should hold onto their puppies until at least 12 weeks. Grim is adorable, please keep us updated on his progress.
