| itching I have a 10 year old male yorkie that has developed diabetes. He has an itching problem and tends to chew raw spots on his lower back. The vet has given me two meds plus topical spray to help with this, but, he still itches. Any ideas? |

| Did the vet give him a steroid shot? Uni itches a lot too, and the two times I've had to take her in, they gave her a shot and it helped right away. Then sent us home with small doses of steroid to slowly taper down the amount for the next few weeks. It's really helped her. We still don't know the source of the itch. Maybe environmental allergies, in that case, we can't get rid of the environment, so just have to make it so that it's tolerable for her. He started itching bc of the diabetes?

YT 2000 Club Member | Jasmine has to have steroid injections too. The hair around her last injection site turned white, peculiar. I really don't like the steroids, i.e. elevate blood sugars, increase thirst, increase weight, organ damage, however the steroids have been the only thing that has worked for Jasmine. So far, we have been able to limit them to only two injections during (1) spring and (1) summer due to environmental issues. We use a rx. Shampoo that works well and is soothing to Jasmine.

| Is your baby on a high protien diet? When I first picked up lily she was being fed a high protien diet which can in some dogs cause excessive itching it was driving her crazy and she also developed so raw bald spots from all the itchy scratching. I was advised to change her to a fish based food which provides her with everything nutritionally. The change had miraculous effects and within 24hrs the itching had stopped. It's worth a try! |

| Was your dog put on a special diet due to the diabetes? Did the itching start after the diabetes was diagnosed? A steroid shot is an option for some allergic reactions. It is best to try to find the source of the allergy as well. If the diet was changed that could be something to look at. |
