| Accident - Stepped on Yorkie Hi! I'm new here. Me and my boyfriend recently bought a yorkie, cute bundle of joy named Jackie, but today I had an accident. She is still a puppy (4 months old). Today i accidentally stepped on her. It all happened so fast I'm not sure what part of her body i stepped on. When I stepped on her she yelped for about three seconds (probably because she got scared), then i picked her up and carried her home. She is now acting fine, she is already biting (as usual), playing, running, she isn't showing any signs of damage (like broken ribs, broken legs ...). She is so little. Can it be possible that she is ok? We love her so much and I really don't want her to be in pain ... And I feel so guilty ...This shouldn't happen ... Thanks for your help! |

| Thanks for a quick answer! I'm very thankful for your help. Jackie is all fine. She is playing around with her toys, eating and acting perfectly normal - hyperactive as always. She threw up at night, but I think it was because she ate apricot kernel outside and it could not digest. It's weekend so i can't take her to the vet right now. We're probably taking her next week (she's getting vaccinated again) and we'll tell the vet about our accident. But he'll probably say that everything's ok. She is really acting totally normal which is quite a surprise for me. I thought something will be wrong, but i guess she's a tough girl. Thanks for all your prayers. I really hope everything will be ok. |

| I forget who but one lady here greets people at her door telling them to do the Yorkie shuffle...great way of putting it. Adjusting to having a Yorkie takes time some accidents happen. Heights are more dangerous, I'd say stay on your toes but its better to do the yorkie shuffle flat footed. Now with foods be on high alert because yorkies are small and doesnt take much to harm them. Make yourself educated on toxic to dogs foods plants and injeation dangers. Watch for allergies and become aware of specific dietary needs of your specific yorkies needs reactions etc. I was discouraged to find out vets dont always let new owners aware of toxic for dogs plants and foods. Also watch household cleaners puddles outside etc. Goodluck.

| i know how you feel. having a tiny dog like a yorkie under your feet takes some getting used to it. sadly i stepped on oscar a couple times and i learned pretty quick to walk softly and look down before i move. it sounds like your little one is ok just have her checked out when you go to the vet for her shots.. |

| Welcome to YT. I am so glad to hear that your puppy is doing OK. Yorkies are often called Velcro dogs because they are always beside you. It take some getting used to. Just always be aware of where your puppy is. If I were you, I would spread the vaccinations out. I never let my vet give the entire round at one time. It's just too much for their little bodies. Also, if your puppy has a reaction to one of them, you will know which one caused it. Never give a rabies shot with the other vaccinations. Wait at least a few weeks.

| Welcome to YT! Glad your baby is ok! We had a bad accident about a year ago. My teenage son accidentally stepped on our 4th month old baby girl. Sadly, she broke her neck. Be so very careful!! Our little ones wear bells so we always know where they are. You never want to have to experience that heartache!!!

| Thanks for all your help. I have been really careful but i've learned you can't be too careful with our little babies. She seems ok after a couple of days. She eats well, plays, she is just perfect! Thanks again. I really appreciate it! |

| You really do have to shuffle your feet when you walk near a Yorkie, especially when they are small. It becomes second nature after awhile. Just keep your eyes on the ground if your puppy is following you. This is why it is so important to train your puppy not to chase or bite at your feet. I'm struggling with training my puppy to learn this now. When your puppy is an adult, they should learn to follow you at a small but safe distance from your feet so you can walk normal again. You still have to be careful though. If you stop walking they will practically stand right on your feet. If you go into a walk without checking the ground first, you might step on their toes. Treading lightly also becomes second nature after awhile, so that if you do step on their toes you don't step hard enough to break anything. The dog will yelp, but you say you're sorry and love them up and go on with your business. Very jingly dog tags or a bell on their collar helps a lot, especially when they are puppies. Mishka has a little cat bell on her collar. It's loud and obnoxious, but I always know where she is! Once she's older and bigger I'll take the bell off and she'll just where her tags. |

| We only have 1 yorkie named Zach and he's always under foot. We never had such a small dog so it takes a little getting used to. Although he's 11 lbs now it still takes a bit of getting used to. Glad to hear that your baby is doing well. Always remember the yorkie shuffle. |

| To be perfectly honest I have stepped on doggy feet before. It stinks it can happen so easily...fortunately mine have learned to watch for feet as adult dogs after a few sore paws.

| Glad your little one is ok. I noticed you said she ate and apricot kernel. Did you mean the pit? If so please be very careful letting her get things like that because they can be very toxic. Welcome to YT.
