| Poorly Dexter Hello everyone, I would have searched, but I'm brand new and can't find the search bar. I have a 4 month old, male Yorkie (with a bit of chihuahua) called Dexter and he's not been very well for the past few days and I wondered if someone could help us. He has had mucus in his stools for the past 3-4 days, turning from green to white, then a bit "mushy". I think he has a swollen stomach and is passing the most disgusting smelling gas! Other than being a bit more clingy to me, he is fine, playing with his toys, eating and drinking normally. I rang the Vet and he said to wait it out a few more days, but if it's something serious I want to take him now. Thanks to anyone that can help! Kadance and Dexter |

| Welcome to you and Dexter! We're glad to see you on YT. In my opinion, mucus and discolored stools are reasons to go to the vet RIGHT AWAY. That isn't normal, and the smelly gas is probably causing his tummy to hurt and make him uncomfortable. Is there another vet you could call and get him in to see today?

| Hi and Welcome to YT! Probiotics may help with the gas problem...all mine are on it. It wouldn't hurt to run a stool sample to the vet to check. Hope he improves quickly... Actually with him being so young, I would get him back to the vet asap.

| I was going to say a stool sample is probably a good idea, and it's cheaper than a whole vet visit. SInce he is young it could be worms or one of those things they often come home with that I can't remember right now.... Did you change his food suddenly? Or let him eat stuff outside? Or give him too many treats...all those could upset his tummy. Be sure to let us know what happens. |

| Ah, I see it now. My vet has told me to take his food away, but as this would be over 12 hours with no food for a 4 monto old, do you think this is advisable? I will be sure to keep everyone updated, he's my first puppy so I'm a nervous about everything he does lol |

| Hello Everyone, I have an update from my lovely vet Dexter either has an infection or a severe stomach irritation, so he's had an injection of antibiotics, special chicken and rice food for the next 5 days (it would hae cost more for me to buy the chicken and cook it lol), a probiotic and a course of antibiotics, and she clipped his nails for free. Small favours! And now he's rolling around the floor with his toys as if to say "I don't know why you were so worried mummy", cheeky thing. Thank you for your support and advice. |

| Glad to see that Dexter is doing better. It is important to seek out the vet when these little ones are so young, as minor things will blow up into bigger issues quickly. You did good getting him seen right away.
