My furkids Donating Member | my heart is breaking right how... Something is going on with my new little boy, Bentley, about 3 hours ago his back legs went out on him and he started to whimper. I ran and picked him up...his little head appeared as if he were drunk. this lasted about 3 seconds. I put him down to see if he was alright and he was fine. I was on the phone with the breeder (about an hour ago)...he was playing with his sister Lillie when he trotted into the living room, slipped and started to whimper again. this time his little head was tilted to the side and he was acting as if something was caught in his throat...his mouth was wide open and he was making a gagging sound. I held onto him for a minute then put him in his x pen to watch him. He just laid down on his bed. After about 10 mins he's up and jumping around wanting to get out. I have called my vet and he goes in at 2:45 today....I am a nervous wreck to say the least. I know what they are going to tell me....seizures. I know someone had posted a video of their dog having a seizure. My question...can they live a long healthy life like this? will this shorten his life? He is only 8 months old....maybe something he will grow out of? do they give meds to help with seizures? I am SO upset right now....He came with a 1 yr health guarantee....I could NEVER bring him back....I fell in love with my little man instantly! with tears in my eyes I am PRAYING he is going to be alright . PLEASE....if anyone has any positive input on this Please let me know....my heart is breaking right now...

| It might have been me - I have a dog w/ epilepsy and he is 3.5 years old and living out his days very happy and medicated. I'm in Providence and I would recommend you do a consultation with Dr. Sisson at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston and let him decide if this is or is not a seizure. He's Teddy's neurologist, and he's the best. You are probably closer to Tufts, but I'd still go to AAMC.

Oh Brenda~I am sure this is very frightening for you and Bentley as well. Cathy (107Barney)has given you excellent advice and a referral to Barney's vet. I've seen videos of Barney while he was having a seizure as well. Keep us posted and we will keep you in our thoughts. Where you on the phone with your breeder while the seizure happened? What did she say? I'm sure she will be supportive of you and Bentley. Some breeders like to cut off communications when things like this happen but she seems to be a good egg.

| The OP said she thought it was a seizure, but I don't think she has confirmed what the vet thought and it definitely sounded differently from the seizures my dog has had. I'm worried, and think she needs to consult w/ Dr. Sisson.

My furkids Donating Member | update on Bentley back from the vets....She ran blood work...CBC/Chem/T4/UA...not quite sure what these are...and also checked his blood glucose level which was fine but, he ate before we left....so...that could have been inconclusive...she was thinking maybe hypoglycemic episode....She will be out of the office tomorrow but another vet will be there so I will call and get the result of the blood work....She did a neurological test on him and said she feels it wasn't a seizure. he has luxtating patellas in both back legs which could be the reason for his legs going out from under him when he is running around. If these tests come back normal...Bentley will have to go to the hospital and spend the day...she will be doing bile acids testing....she is leaning toward liver shunt ... Bentley is 8 months old and weighs 3.7 lbs so he isn't a big boy....he is very thin...but all the breeders dogs were like this....so I'm thinking maybe not? PRAYING it's not!...

| Brenda..Two years ago I found out that my little Cali has a liver shunt. We found out through tests after a "focal seziure" she had. She is now on an everyday supplement. It has been two years since her first seziure and she has not had another seziure since. She is living happy and healthy. My prayers are with you and your little one. Good luck.
