| Raised scab-like bumps on back- advice please? Let me preface this by saying, Poppy has had scabs on her head because she has a habit of REALLY annoying the cats who have swatted her away and she gets a little cut then it heals up. I've just never seen this on her back. Last night I noticed when I scratch her back her little leg would shake shake shake and I could feel tiny little scab-like bumps. They're pinkish brown. Today I gave her a bath in oatmeal shampoo to 1. sooth whatever is going on and 2. so when she was wet , I could part her hair easier and see what's there. There's maybe 5 or 6 tiny little bumps, all on the same part of her back. They are obviously itchy or at least sensitive since when I scratched her back, she reacted. I can't figure out if this is a "see the vet" situation or not. I don't want to wait on anything to get worse, but she's never had any problems and like I said, these bumps slightly resemble the bumps from the cat swats. The internet is scaring the heck out of me, but it doesn't look like any of the pictures I am seeing online, which is offering a great sense of relief, especially since I've seen and know the cause of this before. I need to make sure so I wanted to seek out opinions here. I know the vet is the only way to know for sure but taking her in for an office visit tomorrow will cost nearly 100dollars plus whatever tests they need to run and if it turns out it's not an emergency, I'd rather not go through that. Does this sound like an emergency to anyone???

| They're actually a little light brown in color. I can't find anything online that looks like this.

| Sorry I can't help you. I can say that Maddie has gotten occasional bumps/scabs on her back before. I just figured it was an insect bites and treated her with a warm bath and some anit-itch spray to keep her from scratching them and allow them to heal. |

| I think you can safely wait until tomorrow to see the vet on the bumps. I would be concerned about the cat swatting her and cutting her.

| Humm. I didn't even catch that That is scary. Cat claws are so sharp and can damage eyes easily, not to mention the bacteria they harbor under them to get into cuts made on your pup. |

Well the cat thing is something I have spoken to the vet to in the past and I was advised to just make sure the cat's claws are trimmed regularly. Apparently it's a common problem my vet sees a lot, but of course I do worry about infection.....honestly though, there's nothing I can do about this. Poppy is the perpetrator, she chases after the cats and attacks them causing them to swat her away. It seems she won't learn from this. I have some Neosporin with pain relief I was considering putting on there, but I just called my mom and she said neosporin is bad for dogs because of the zinc??? Has anyone ever heard of this??

I wouldnt want the baby to injest it though. |

| Yes, I would definitely go to the vet. It may be a staph infection which is very common in dogs. Let us know how it goes at the vet.

| My yorkie has the same thing. I feel so bad for him and can't figure out what to do. This has been going on for several weeks and I have been bathing him in oatmeal body wash and it seems to clear them up for a day or so then they come back. They are the worst they have been now. I think I will take him to the vet tomorrow too. Can't stand to see him suffer with this it is sad. It must be something catching for your baby to be suffering from the same thing my buddy is. Good luck to us both!

| Toby had the same thing. Took him to the vet and we determined it was the flea/tick liquid I put down his back. Got some antibiotics and now they are gone! He must have had some sort of allergic reaction to something in the medication. They didn't itch but your description is exactly how Toby's looked. If you put flea/tick medication down their spine, that could be the culprit.

| My yorkie has the same thing. I took her to the vet and was told it was probably allergies and/or an allergic reaction to something. Well, she gave me antibiodics (just in case) and an anti-inflammatory, I also bought some Oatmeal shampoo while I was there. Well, they cleared up for a bit and now they are back. Hate to go back to the vet since that didn't really help anyway - please let me know what you find out. She has not had any flea stuff put on her back for over a month (she is due again) and I have waited on that just in case. Any other ideas? |

| Huh, well... okay, this was my first post here, wasn't really looking for treatment, just maybe some ideas of what she could be allergic to since apparently it wasn't an infection or anything serious since the anti-inflammatory did clear it up. I would never think I could treat my Gracie online, just trying to see if maybe there is something dogs are generally allergic to I had not thought of, this is my first dog so... |
