| Maggie is pooing blood I noticed Maggie had not been eating the last few days but decided to watch her and see. Her stools were normal on Saturday. There was no pooh to pick up yesterday afternoon. That was strange but I didn't worry. This afternoon when I walked her, she had diarrhea. I pick up as much as I could but didn't pay attention to it. A few minutes later she went again, all I had was a clear baggie. When I picked it up it was just runny blood. I took her to the vet, he did blood work, x-rays, sub-Q fluids and the usual injections - Cerenia, Centrine, Ampicillin and Dexamethasone. Sent her home with the same meds - Panacur and Metronidazole. She has been acting fine, running, barking, etc. She did act a little tired when we were walking, I don't think she wanted to go. She had almost this same thing in November but she had dark (looked like tar) diarrhea. I still don't have any answers as to what she has, although the vet mentioned that this time he thought it was something toxic. Now that I have written a small novel...any ideas? What do I do now, if anything but wait and see if she gets well?

| Maggie (Sweet Apple) just went through something similar with Apple. Did you see that thread? She is not sure what caused it, but considered the bully sticks. Other people posted that their pups had bloody stools while on bully sticks. Do you use them perhaps? Just a thought. I am sorry to hear this...I know you must be so worried.

| I did not see that thread. Maggie doesn't like bully sticks but she loves the flossies (the spiral chews), I think they are the same thing. I will have to read that thread. When the babies are sick, I'm worried sick.

| I would get rid of them! There is also a thread about them causing bloody stools. Let me see if I can find it.

| The vet also mentioned HGE. Meanwhile I am going to pick up the flossies. I had no idea so many people had issues with bully sticks and bloody stools. I feel really bad when they get sick and it could be my fault. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of those two threads.

| No food for several days & pooping blood does not sound good. Pancreatitis is very common with Yorkies also. Did the vet check her pancreas levels? |

| They did blood work, so I am sure that is being checked.

| I agree with LadyJane to ditch the bully sticks. I'd also get rid of flossies and anything with bacteria like hooves, etc. I'd avoid raw food also.

| I don't know if you feed raw or not; but my vet suspects that in a recent case of a yorkie with bloody stools. Just an FYI in case.

| Sending get well prayers to Maggie and hugs to you both. It's so upsetting when our babies aren't well. Hope Maggie feels better. |

| When my Bentley was young, bloody stools happened every couple of weeks, and each time we RAN to the vet, and each time the vet said if he is still "behaving" relatively normally, don't worry. And each time he was, and each time he was fine. The culprit, for us was stress. When he was young, it took little, now that he is older, it takes a lot to stress him! You need to wait for the blood work. Incidentally Bentley does get Bullies, every day, so for us I think they are ok, as they are for many. I hope he is well.

I don't think it's stress, Maggie doesn't seem to stress. If it were Buster I would agree with stress. The vet did mention stress could cause this as well. The strange thing is, Maggie seems fine, she seemed a little tired when I walked her yesterday but otherwise she is acting normal. When the alarm went off this morning, she was running down the stairs growling, then barking at whatever is out there at 4:00AM. The only thing different is her appetite. It is rare for Maggie to miss a meal, that was my first clue something might be wrong. She has hardly eaten a thing the last few days. I hope someone can find out what is wrong.
