| I'm so sorry your little girl is having problems. I think she just had too many shots at one time. I always get the regular shot and never get lepto. Then later (months) we get the rabies. Now, having said that, lepto has been found in dogs in New Jersey in recent years. You will have to determine if your little one is at risk for it and that really depends on the places you take her. I would read up about lepto in New Jersey and see what you think about it. I hope she will be feeling better soon.

YT Addict | ok the vet called me back... she really didn't say anything that you guys haven't already told me, or that i already didn't know for some reason, she doesn't think that this is a reaction to the shots itself... (this was the on call vet, NOT Hazel's vet) she suggested parasites. Hazel did have Giardia over a month ago, and was treated for it. she thinks that maybe she somehow contracted it again, or that it never fully died off... and mixed in with the vaccines she could be having a reaction. i honestly don't think thats the case... but i could be wrong. she said that Hazel should have been retested 2 weeks after her medicine was done. MY vet never told me that. in fact she told me that my NEXT vet visit which is on the 2nd Hazel should be retested. She did suggest pepto or the imodium (sp?) i don't have any so she just told me to cook some white rice with chicken bullion and give it to her. she just ate it. and she drank up quite a bit of water. before the vet called i was giving her water through a straw. i don't have pumpkin... she wants me to bring Hazel back in tomorrow for another fecal. then someone else told me that this happens to her yorkie all the time after it gets shots and its lasts for a couple of days... i'm confused as to what to do... i think its just a reaction from the shots themselves. my poor baby just curled up right beside me... she acting fine... she still has the runs though ugh it smells SOOO bad! i haven't seen blood, thats the best part... i know i'm not going to get any sleep tonight as the night goes on, her stool is getting more and more muckier. YUCK! this morning it started off fine though. still no behavior changes... and thank you everyone! |

| Honestly, it could be either thing. I would just take a specimen in anyway (or take her in if she seems ill tomorrow)....better to know. You definitely don't want it to get out of control if it is giardia. I am happy to hear that she seems ok though.

| If she had giardia, then you don't want to take any chances. I would take a sample so they could check it and I'd take her, too. I hope she gets better soon.

YT Addict | Ok guys! i have 5 minutes left t say good morning ! ! ! me and Hazel went to bed around 5 am. i didn't want her having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and me miss the "potty whimper". she woke up earlier, and just peed (all over the floor missing the puppy pad by LESS then an inch!). so after i cleaned up we went back to sleep. about 15 minutes ago she did the potty whimper and i took her outside. she pooped out nothing but pumkin, LOL, it looked the same as it did when it went it. BUT it was ALOT firmer then she stools were yesterday. it didn't look like pudding. i give her some nutri cal (i wish i remembered this eairler on in the day yesterday) this morning along with some more pumpkin. i have ANOTHER interview at 1:30, so she'll be alone for roughly an hour... depending on how she acts when i get home, i'll be taking her straight to the vet. right now, shes simply being hazel. attacking her favorite toy... has a cold, wet nose, pink wet gums... and is running around like a MANIAC. LOL. thanks you guys! i will keep you updated! |

Giardia can show up during times of extreme stress. Immunizations are stressful. It's definitely a good idea to go have her retested.

YT Addict | OK... i have ANOTHER UPDATE::::: aww i know her butt is most definitely red and sore!!! after every poo she does i use cumber green tea wipes. i'll get her some witch hazel though. SOOOO. i got back from my interview, and i took Hazel out in the yard to poop because i KNOW she had to. when she pooped it was POOP SHAPED ! ! ! i was SOOO happy. we were playing around in the yard, and she stopped to poop again... she was standing there straining, and BARELY anything was coming out. i picked her up to look at her butt, thinking some was stuck on there... and i was a DROP OF BLOOD. i took her right back in the house, wiped her but with a baby wipe to see small traces of blood and mucus. so i called the vet. as my luck has it, for some reason my vets office closes at 3:00 on thursdays. and i called at 3:22. they did pick up, i told them what was going on, and they told me the vet had already left for the day... she told me to bring Hazel back in tomorrow... BUT, she wasn't helping me... so i asked her if Hazel would be alright until then, and she put me on hold. They called the vet, adn she turned around and went back to to office to see Hazel (thank GOD) i got there in under 5 minutes... she took her temperature which was normal, did a rectum check, normal... i gave a sample for a fecal to recheck for giardia... i was going to get a parvo test done... but that test is $87 bucks... so she said i should get it done on the 2nd when Hazel goes back in for her last shot. i would have gotten it today but i already owed money, i feel bad she said she doesn't show symptoms of parvo for me to be worried about it. but i just want it done anyway FOR MY OWN PEACE OF MIND. she also said that when she stuck her finger up her butt the fact that blood didn't come out on her glove was good. i'm STILL FREAKIN OUT OVER HERE! Hazel got medicine metronidazole, she said IF she in fact had parvo again that would kill it if it was there... plus its an antibiotic. she told me to keep her diet bland. rice, pumpkin, meat baby food... and thats about it... hopefully she's better in the next couple of days. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I'm glad Hazel isn't showing any signs of Parvo, but my head is spinning by what you report the vet said. If a vet has a reason to suspect parvo, you definitely don't want to wait on the test. It boggles my mind that a vet would say it could wait for nearly a month! Parvo is caused by a virus and is NOT killed by antibiotics/anti-protozoal meds.

YT Addict | guys, IDK what to do... she just THREW UP! and it wasn't the kind of clearish throw up that she did the other day when you guys told me she probably threw up from an empty tummy... this was like a runny smoothie, almost like a paint substance... (for lack of a better term) with the contents of some tiny carrot pieces that were in the baby food i was told to give her by the vet. then the foamy white stuff. she's still acting FINE though... idk guys =[ |
