| Shound I be worried? Jumped/fell on tile floor New (and nervous) Yorkie mom here! We brought home our boy 5 1/2 month old Nikko Monday. He's slowly adjusting to being here with my husband and myself . . . We adore him and he's a total mush! That said, I just had a family member over for a visit who "knows all about dogs" and was holding Nikko on her lap while she sat on a chair in the kitchen. I guess Nikko decided he wanted to get down and jumped off her lap, half landing/falling with his front paws (and maybe chest?) onto the porcelain tile floor . He maybe made a tiny yelp (if he even made any noise, I somehow can't remember, but he didn't seem overly phased by it) and got up and walked away like nothing happened. He seems fine since, he's not limping, not crying, I've picked him up a few times since then and he doesn't show any obvious signs that he's in pain from the fall, right now he's happily sleeping on my lap. I think I'm a lot more upset about the whole thing than he is. I've just heard stories of Yorkies breaking legs, bones, etc after jumping off things or by falling. I know how "fragile" they are so I'm concerned. I feel pretty silly rushing him to the vet when he shows no signs of injury, but as a new yorkie mommy I can't help but worry about him. Any insight would be very appreciated! |

| It sounds like he's probably fine and you can just keep an eye on him for a few hours as long as he didn't hit his head when he jumped/fell. But it's best to follow your instincts - if you feel something might be wrong, get him in ASAP. Just to be sure, you might call your vet and see what they think.

| awww poor baby! I always watch my dogs carefully when mishaps occur and err on the side of going to the vet rather than not. I have rushed to the vet many times only to be told that they were fine but lots of times I have had injuries or illnesses. So keep a close watch and if you see any vomiting, inappropriate mental behavior or anything that just seems 'off' go to a vet. Better safe than sorry

That's what I have done and how I feel too. I hope your baby is ok.

| Thanks for the responses everyone! He seems to be fine so far, but I'll definitely keep a close watch on him for the next few hours. I unfortunately know where the (very expensive) 24 hr animal emergency room is from my late boxer mix. I'm adjusting to these tiny dogs, they are SO different from the big ones I've always had in the past! |

| should be fine if not limping or holding up paw. My demi was holding her front paw up one day when we came home. I called hospital and they told me you definitely know if they break something as they are in alot of pain. If fracture they apply some pressure and limp on it. If broken they said they will not apply any pressure on it at all as too painful. Also if you feel down the leg as i did they will show signs of pain. When i felt down it was her paw that she would flinch at and they cannot do anything if they break a bone in paw area as they are too tiny and they said they will not show up in xray either I would just keep an eye on him but sounds like he is fine. |
