| Has anyone taken their yorkie to uc davis vet?? This is my second time taking my lil yorkie (Rowdy) to UC Davis Vet. I would like to know some feedback. His next appt. is for a technetium scan. Is this scan safe??? The Vet told me he will need to stay over night!! |

| We have never taken our yorkies to UCD but we did take our cat. The cat ended up losing his back leg and the staff did a most amazing job at keeping him alive. They are very talented and he ONLY lost his leg and not his life! I dont know anything about the scan but the vets and vet techs were AWESOME!!!

| what is the test for? I do know they are as much as private practice usually so are you going due to equipment or for cost effectiveness? |

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | Ive not taken any dog there, but my mom's great dane had heart worms really bad. This was years ago, but she came to my mom already infected. The vet thought she would die for sure and suggested UCD. She had to stay there almost two weeks for the treatments, but they pulled her though! |

| i personally would hold off with this and do low protein diet for 6 mos then retest bats as i think sometimes they jump the gun on this test in a dog with no symptoms |

| Okay I am confused...I do not see where she has stated anything about symptoms...and so your advise scares me...I think she needs to listen to the vets unless she gives a lot more information.

| she posted it on another thread she has going - no symptoms and bat was 105 just over 100 and our vet wanted us to do it too with bats at 73 so i think they jump the gun on this and putting radioactive dye in anyones body i would take very seriously before doing it. My dog is 5 1/2 no symptoms ever and when we put her on low protein diet her bats went to 26 so since this dog has no symptoms i would hold off on this test personall just as i chose to do with my dog. Now if your dog has symptoms like seizures head pressing, picky eater, etc then by all means but that number is just slightly over 100 and i would question it myself as i did with my vets. Keep in mind many vets do not know alot about liver shunts so they tend to jump the gun on tests such as this |

| It is similar to an xray, so my guess is that there is similar risk involved. I've never heard of a problem with this. What symptoms is your pup having? If the BAT is over 100, it is probably time to do further testing, especially if this is a young dog. They are up that high for a reason...

| i would go with 18% protein - natural balance fish and sweet potato, natural balance vegetarian, doctor dodds liver cleansing diet if you want to home cook, hill's L/D but that is higher in fat, purina ha as that is what i feed it is 18% protein and 8% fat and it is a hydrolized soy diet but many do not like it but mine do |
