Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ARGH!!!! Don't know what else to do!!!!! I am very upset! I bought my puppy at about 9 weeks old, 2 days later she tested positive 4+ (many, severe) for Coccidia. She has been on Albon, then Tribrissen and then Albon again. Her stools have finally been normal looking for the past 2 weeks. Just got the results of her last fecal and she still tests positive 3+ (Moderate) for it! I keep her in a crate at night, I watch her every second during the day so that she doesn't eat her darn poop. On top of all of this, my husband broke her foot, so I am now having to hold her leg when she pees to prevent her from getting her splint wet! I just do not know what else to do!! I am waiting to hear which antibiotic the vet recommends we now give her! I am soooo not happy with the breeder that sold me this sick puppy! I love her to pieces and would never give her back, but the amount I paid for this sick little thing really upsets me!!! If anyone has any ideas or tips on how to cure her of this once and for all, I am happy to get any advice!! Lisa |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | The stress of going to a new home caused her to show signs of coccidea. It's a parasite that resides in all dogs' intestines....but puppies are most susceptible when under stress. Have you washed everything she's come in contact with? Her bedding, floors, etc? It's shed in feces...if she's eating her own waste...she's re-infecting herself also. I think I'd be more ticked at hubby than the breeder. Hope her foot heals without any complications.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Yes I read about the stress factor. However, I also read that if they test positive within 15 days of getting her than they were infected where she came from. And she tested positive 2 days after I got her since she was bought on a Saturday. So I can easily blame this on the breeder. Not to mention they had given her Albon every other day as maintenace they told me and that she had nothing wrong with her. That was clearly a bunch of bull! She has never appeared stressed in the least. Not saying she didn't have a bit coming to a new home, that is entirely possible, but the Coccidia was not due from that. As for my husband, I was very upset with him to say the least. But it was an accident and I really don't feel like blaming him forever about that unless I want him to divorce me. Even the Vet said I should not be too hard on him, that accidents do happen. Yes I have washed beddings, probably not enough though. Quote:

| The Albon is an excellent antibiotic. The drugs chemical composition will remain relatively unchanged all the way through excretment which is exactly what your little one needs. However, like all antibiotics, it will also kill all the natural bacterial flora in her intestines, so you might want to try an "Enzyme and Pobiotic" like NaturVet. It is a powder that you can sprinkle on her food to help re-establish the natural bacteria that aid in digestion and keep her small and large intestive healthy. I know it must be very frustrating, but hang in there! Your little girl is counting on you! |

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/e...jsp?id=UA-1010 also i have two others pm me this week saying thanks as this stuff worked wonders for their dog and the one said a vet looked at it and said it is good. It is non-dairy which is very important for dogs as many are lactose intolerant Last edited by dwerten; 02-08-2010 at 03:13 PM. | |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks all. Yes, I am big on probiotics especially if I have to resort to antibiotics. I have probiotics for Molly already as I do for the rest of my family. My dad used to make the best probiotics on the market when he was alive. |
