| You are so fortunate to find a vet that would work with you on price. I had my Moses for 1 day when he leaped off the bed and broke his leg. I had just gone thru treating my other dog due to a dog fight and he died and we had over $2000 in vet bills. When Mosey broke his leg, they told me from $1500 to $3000 to fix it. We opted for amputation, as much as it hurt. He was so young (10 mos) and from the 2nd day we had him, he was in a cast. This was the end of March 09, but by June it had not healed, so it was amputated. The only issue he has now is he falls over when he lifts his leg to pee!! He is so much fun, he runs circles around Isabel, my other yorkie. The vet's (2, I wanted a 2nd opinion on the amputation) told me he would not miss the leg. So, he's our Stumpy. We watch him a little closer, we try our best to not let him jump, although he will. He can lose his balance easier, but he is just fine and if the surgery doesn't work and you have to go with the amputation, your little guy will be fine too. Moses had his surgery the first weekend in June and by the end of June, you would never have known (other than the missing leg!), he healed that quickly. |

| I try not to read some of the posts in this section because it hurts to see so many sad stories, but I'm glad things are going well for Tic Tac. My own Cindy, while not a Yorkie, had a severely broken foot at age 10 weeks and the vet told us she'd never be able to run. It turned out just fine and she was as fast as lightning. I hope Tic Tac is able to heal just as well. Treat him gently and he'll be fine. |
