| Anybody know of any experimental treatments for reverse PDA? Im new here and am glad I found this forum. I just received some terrible news that my Yorkies red blood cell counts were high for a yorkie. The vet says he thinks its reverse PDA. I havent visited with the Cardiologist yet for the ultrasound, but could it be anything else? She has fluid in her lungs, but still has an appetite, and will occasional be playful. Her eyes are still white and her gums are a nice pink color. Her problems started when she inhaled some of her puke accidentally. She has a disorder(basillius or something like that) where she pukes up yellow bile if she doesnt eat every 8 hrs. Ever since that night her breathing has been raspy. We took her in and the vet put her on prednisilone. She still has fluid in her lungs and now the vet thinks its reverse PDA because he doesnt hear a murmur. If it is RPDA, can I go anywhere to find any new or experimental treatments? Shes only 2 yrs old, Im not ready to say goodbye to her yet! Last edited by yorkie77; 01-05-2010 at 11:17 AM. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! I am so sorry about your baby. Did they say anything about a possible aspiration pneumonia since it showed up after her vomiting? Hopefully the meds will work. Keep us posted on how her visit with the cardiologist goes.

| Whew, what a sigh of relief! The cardiologist did an ultrasound on her and said her heart is totally normal. Her regular vet thought it was RPDA because shes 22 months old, her PCV count was high, and she has spots in her lungs according to the Xray. Im just glad this isnt heart related. So now we just monitor her and do another xray in a month to see if the spots have gone away. The cardiologist thought perhaps she was dehydrated(not sure how she drinks water alot) and thats what threw off the PCV count. |
